Escape to the coast for a delightful day discovering unique and historical sites in and around L.A. Harbor that all share spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean! Battleship USS Iowa is not only the biggest U.S. battleship ever built, but it has hosted more U.S. Presidents than any other and is the only one of her kind to serve in World War II. Designated the “World’s Greatest Naval Ship” due to her massive guns, heavy armor, speed and modernization, this 45,000-ton ship is now a floating naval history museum in L.A. Harbor! Follow in the footsteps of sailors on a self-guided tour of the ship with both interior and exterior access on up to seven decks along a one directional tour route. Explore at your own pace with optional free audio commentary provided via an app on your Android or Apple device. Access the Officers Wardroom, Senior Officers Cabins, Admirals Bridge, Navigation Bridge, Crews Quarters daily, Main Galley, Crew's Mess Hall, the Museum and exterior spaces which cover the length of three football fields! Learn first-hand why this amazing ship is known as the “Battleship of Presidents,” “The Grey Ghost,” and “The Big Stick.” Enjoy an included box lunch picnic in Long Beach's picturesque Rainbow Harbor with time to explore ShoreLine Aquatic Park and the shops at The Pike Outlets. This afternoon we’ll enjoy a narrated harbor cruise with shaded and unshaded areas for your comfort. We’ll learn about the bustling L.A. harbor, coined “America’s Port” as it is the nation’s #1 container port. We’ll explore the coastline and see large cargo and container ships from all over the world along with wildlife, historical landmarks and more! We top off the day with an included ice cream treat and time to browse Shoreline Village. A highlight today will be driving over the new Gerald Desmond Bridge that just opened on October 5, 2020. This new suspension bridge is not only a new Southern California icon, but one of the tallest bridges of its kind in the United States! This tour involves moderate walking including stairs and ladders aboard the USS Iowa.
