Today we travel to the small historic town of Sierra Madre, nestled in the scenic foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. This “Mayberry USA” town retains much of the quaint character that made the town and its surrounding environs a popular tourist destination during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A member of the Sierra Madre Historical Preservation Society will step aboard the motorcoach and provide a narrated driving tour featuring 30 historic locations and the wistaria plants that dot this historic city. We continue to Sierra Madre’s charming downtown village with time at leisure to explore the Wistaria Festival, boasting food and drink, live music, antique car show and art faire with over 100 artisans and craft makers selling original, hand-crafted items including jewelry, paintings, wood objects, clothing, garden art and other unique items. This afternoon (approximately 1:30 p.m.), we’ll enjoy an included tea lunch at a charming tearoom housed in a traditional California bungalow in downtown Sierra Madre. This traditional tea lunch features a variety of tasty teas, finger sandwiches and a variety of desserts including their famous scones. This tour involves moderate walking. |
