Activity Level 3
On this new discovery of fine art in the desert we’ll journey just southeast of Palm Springs to the annual La Quinta Art Celebration. Ranked as one of the top fine art and fine craft events in the nation, this unique event at the La Quinta Civic Center Park celebrates an amazing array of artwork amongst a beautiful backdrop. Wander past the park's gorgeous water feature and visit 200 booths featuring juried world-class artists from 31 states and 6 countries exhibiting their spectacular creations in styles ranging from classical to whimsical. Enjoy ample time at leisure to engage with the artists in their outdoor galleries and learn about their process, soak up the live musical entertainment and enjoy lunch on your own at the gourmet food court with shaded seating. This afternoon we continue to Rancho Mirage and the picturesque Sunnylands Center & Gardens. Enjoy time at leisure to watch the films, browse art from the Annenberg Collection and interact with exhibits focused on the legacy of philanthropists Walter and Leonore Annenberg. An impressive array of modern sculpture and canvased work by many 19th and 20th century artists including Picasso is on display. You’ll be captivated by 40 years of history in the “Room of Memories,” which features framed photos, letters and memorabilia gifted by the famous icons, presidents and royalty the Annenbergs hosted. Experience the limited-time exhibition, A Place at the Table: Dining at Sunnylands, which features photographs and other mementos from the Annenberg’s famous dinner gatherings with guests such as Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, Frank Sinatra and Queen Elizabeth II. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the 9-acre desert art garden that features over 70 species of native and arid-adapted plants from North and South America, Africa, and the Mediterranean. No visit to the Coachella Valley is complete without a stop at Hadley Fruit Orchards. Founded in 1931, this southern California landmark has provided a friendly place to shop for premium quality Medjool dates, dried fruit, nuts, hand mixed trail mixes, honey, preserves, freshly-ground peanut butter and a variety of gifts. You may want to head to the snack bar for a beloved date shake!
