The Huntington Library, Art Museum & Botanical Gardens & Los Angeles Lantern Festival Art Expo
Activity Level
Activity Level 3
This new afternoon-into-evening excursion begins at The Huntington – the spectacular library, art museum, and botanical gardens. Originally the private estate of railroad magnate Henry E. Huntington, The Huntington is considered one of the great Gilded Age residences in America. Enjoy approximately three hours at leisure exploring the gardens, galleries and expansive gift shop with a late lunch or early dinner on your own at the various eateries. Encompassing 130 acres and containing more than 83,000 living plants including rare and endangered species, the 16 stunning themed gardens include the popular Rose Garden, Camellia Garden, Jungle Garden, Japanese Garden and Chinese Garden. The art museum features British, European, American, and Asian art spanning more than 500 years and includes more than 45,000 objects. Extraordinary examples of decorative arts and folk art, paintings, prints and drawings, photography and sculpture are displayed in the Huntington Art Gallery (the original home of Henry and Arabella Huntington) and in the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art. As the sun sets, we’ll arrive at Santa Anita Park for the annual Los Angeles Lantern Festival Art Expo – an extraordinary event that offers a fusion of timeless traditions and contemporary delights! Step into a realm of ancient elegance and modern marvels as you explore the 66 sets of lanterns featuring themes that range from the Great Tang Dynasty and a “Jurassic Journey” with life-size dinosaurs, to modern technology and holidays like Halloween and Christmas. You may want to feast from 140 food vendors selling traditional Chinese delicacies and other global flavors. With dazzling lanterns aglow, enchanting cultural performances, and tantalizing cuisine, this event promises to be an unforgettable journey of heritage and creativity. This tour involves moderate walking. Portions of The Huntington’s art galleries are subject to closure during exhibit installation.
