On this new tour to the Santa Ynez Valley, we’ll discover some hidden gems in this secluded region of rolling hills dotted with horse ranches, vineyards, olive trees, Scrub oak, and early California-style architecture. We’ll travel through the picturesque San Marcos Pass into Cold Spring Canyon where the historic Cold Spring Tavern sits just off historic Stagecoach Road. The oldest continuously running tavern in California, what is now the Cold Spring Tavern, began operating in 1868 as a stagecoach stop called “Cold Spring Relay Station.” The tavern maintains its historic look, and as you explore the grounds, you can’t help feeling like you’re stepping back to the late 1800s. We’ll enjoy an included lunch with choice of entrée (hint: the tri-tip sandwich is their specialty) and dessert at this California landmark. We continue to Seein’ Spots, an animal rescue farm that is a haven founded on a love for abandoned animals. While primarily a home for miniature donkeys and miniature mules, there are a number of other animals including goats, sheep, pigs, turkeys, chickens, geese, a tortoise and Zeyore the zonkey – half zebra and half donkey! You can cuddle and feed nearly every four-footed animal – and they sure love the attention! This afternoon we’ll visit Los Olivos, the historic town known for its love of the arts, unique boutiques and a variety of wine tasting rooms. Enjoy time at leisure to explore this very walkable two-block village with an included olive oil tasting at olive oil tasting room that features world-class, locally grown olive that cover the spectrum – from mild and soft, to pungent and peppery. During your guided olive oil tasting, you’ll be taught how to taste olive oil and discover the scents, textures, flavors, and other attributes that give the oil its identity.
