On this new and exclusive “Old Hollywood” to “New Hollywood” tour, we’ll journey to the glamorous Santa Monica coast, a shoreline once so coveted by Hollywood royalty it was nicknamed the "Gold Coast." It was here in the 1920s that the rich and celebrated built their stunning seaside estates. This fun, celebrity-themed adventure is led by Jasmin, a former actress and Old Hollywood aficionado, who has led our tribute tours to Walt Disney, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra. Our day begins with a private, docent-guided tour of the famed Marion Davies Beach Guest House, one of the original structures of the 110-room estate built in the 1920s by William Randolph Hearst for his girlfriend, actress Marion Davies (the main house was destroyed in the 1994 Northridge earthquake). As you admire the original tilework and architectural details in the house as well as the original swimming pool, you'll feel the echoes of the lavish parties that once hosted the era's biggest stars and get a true glimpse into the glamour of 1930s Hollywood. Later, we’ll continue to The Cloverfield Restaurant at the historic Santa Monica Airport for an included lunch with choice of entrée and dessert. This modern American gastropub that prides itself on a "farm to table" ethos, is situated in the space formerly occupied by the iconic Spitfire Grill and pays homage to the airport's original name, Clover Field. This afternoon our nostalgic journey takes us past several famous television and filming locations including Santa Monica High School, the historic school featured in the classic James Dean film, Rebel Without a Cause. We’ll stop to admire Santa Monica City Hall, featuring a distinctive Art Deco-esque facade that has been featured in numerous films and television shows including Barbie. See The Georgian Hotel, the iconic turquoise Art Deco hotel on Ocean Avenue that has been a favorite filming spot for decades and often used to depict a classic "Miami" or "Old Hollywood" setting. We’ll stop to take a stroll on the famed Santa Monica Pier, the last of the famous pleasure piers that once lined the Southern California coast. Built in 1909 and known as “Southern California's Coney Island,” this icon has been featured prominently in numerous television shows and movies including Forrest Gump, Iron Man, Hancock and The Sting.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health & wellness measures in place.
