Embrace the festive spirit of San Diego on this holiday excursion that blends the vibrant culture of Old Town with the seaside glamour and seasonal splendor of the legendary Hotel del Coronado! We begin with approximately 3½ hours at leisure to explore Old Town, San Diego’s oldest neighborhood and historic birthplace. Rich in Mexican heritage, this lively district offers endless charm. Stroll through lush courtyards in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park to discover historic adobe landmarks, museums, strolling mariachis, and folklorico dancers. Browse more than 75 specialty shops and open-air artisan carts brimming with handcrafted folk art, pottery, clothing, and traditional Mexican sweets. The open-air Old Town Market Place is home to a variety of carts and shops that sell handcrafted trinkets, clothing and accessories traditional to the Mexican culture. Bazaar del Mundo is a San Diego shopping and dining institution popular for food, folklore and fun. Savor authentic Mexican cuisine and handmade tortillas for lunch on your own at one of the festive local cantinas. Or, for a classic holiday indulgence, spend about an hour exploring Old Town before joining an optional traditional afternoon tea (approximately 2:00 p.m.) at the Coral Tree Tea House, set within a charming 1887 Victorian home in historic Heritage County Park. Served on fine china with classic three-tiered stands, this English-style tea service includes a variety of savory finger sandwiches, warm savories, fresh-baked scones, and decadent petite desserts, paired with freshly steeped loose-leaf teas. As twilight falls, we’ll travel across the Coronado Bridge to the iconic Hotel del Coronado, where Victorian seaside grandeur meets holiday enchantment. The Del goes all out for the holiday season with thousands of twinkling lights, lush garland, a towering Christmas tree in the lobby, and festive decor across its beachfront grounds. Enjoy time at leisure to stroll through the historic corridors, explore the resort's upscale boutiques, and admire the stunning holiday décor. The evening’s centerpiece is the annual Lightshow Spectacular—a dazzling, 10-minute light and music show featuring a lively and festive soundtrack and magical “snow” flurries falling through the towering pine grove on the Del’s historic Founders Lawn. Showcased is the Norfolk Pine originally made famous in 1904 as the world’s first electrically lit outdoor Christmas tree. The light show may be canceled in inclement weather (or up to 24 hours following rain) to protect equipment and guest safety. Guests that purchase the optional tea lunch should expect a 100-yard walk up a gradual incline within Heritage Park and note that Coral Tree Tea House assesses an $11 surcharge for gluten-free or vegan meal requests.
