On this exclusive “Old Hollywood” to “New Hollywood” tour, we’ll journey to the glamorous Santa Monica coast, a shoreline once so coveted by Hollywood royalty it was nicknamed the "Gold Coast." It was here in the 1920s that the rich and celebrated built their stunning seaside estates. This fun, celebrity-themed adventure is led by Jasmin, a former actress and Old Hollywood aficionado, who has led our tribute tours to Walt Disney, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra. Our day begins with a private, docent-guided tour of the famed Marion Davies Beach Guest House, an original surviving structure of the massive 110-room estate built in the 1920s by William Randolph Hearst for his starlet girlfriend, actress Marion Davies (the main house was unfortunately destroyed in the 1994 Northridge earthquake). As you admire the original tilework, architectural details, and historic swimming pool, you'll feel the echoes of lavish parties that once hosted the era's biggest stars, offering a true glimpse into 1930s Hollywood glamour. Later, we’ll head to The Cloverfield Restaurant at the historic Santa Monica Airport for an included lunch with choice of entrée and dessert. This modern American gastropub prides itself on a "farm to table" ethos, beautifully occupying the space formerly known as the iconic Spitfire Grill while paying homage to the airport's original name, Clover Field. This afternoon our nostalgic journey takes us past several famous filming locations, including Santa Monica High School – the historic campus featured in the classic James Dean film, Rebel Without a Cause. We’ll stop to admire Santa Monica City Hall, featuring a distinctive Art Deco-esque facade seen in numerous productions including Barbie. We’ll also see The Georgian Hotel, the iconic turquoise Art Deco gem on Ocean Avenue that has been a favorite filming spot for decades, often standing in for a classic "Miami" or "Old Hollywood" setting. Finally, we’ll take a stroll on the famed Santa Monica Pier, the last of the grand pleasure piers that once lined the Southern California coast. Built in 1909 and affectionately known as “Southern California's Coney Island,” this legendary landmark has been featured prominently in major films like Forrest Gump, Iron Man, Hancock and The Sting.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health & wellness measures in place.
