After countless non-landing cruises to Anacapa Island, we are excited to offer – for the first time – an easy way to step foot in Channel Islands National Park! A “treasure in the sea” that is close to the mainland, yet worlds apart, Channel Islands National Park and its ocean environment preserves and protects a wealth of natural and cultural resources. Isolation over thousands of years has created unique animals, plants, and archeological resources found nowhere else on Earth, and helped preserve a place where visitors can experience coastal southern California as it once was. Established in 1980, Channel Islands National Park is made up of five islands: San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Anacapa, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz – the largest of the islands. We’ll travel by motorcoach to Ventura Harbor and then step aboard a twin-hulled vessel operated by the official national park boat concessionaire. The large vessel offers a smooth ride and features a restroom, snack bar and both indoor and outdoor seating on multiple decks. We’ll travel approximately 1 hour across Santa Barbara Channel and through the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary to Santa Cruz Island. Enroute, the knowledgeable crew will point out any dolphins, seals or other marine wildlife we may encounter. We’ll disembark the vessel onto the pier at Scorpion Anchorage and enjoy approximately 2 ½ hours at leisure. Santa Cruz Island is rich in cultural history, magnificent landscapes, and unique flora and fauna. Native American Indians inhabited the island for over 10,000 years and Europeans explored and ranched on the island for over 150 years. Enjoy an included box lunch at the nearby picnic tables and step into the visitor center located in the historic Scorpion ranch house. Take an easy walk on level ground or embark on a more challenging hike for spectacular views of the island. Bring your snorkeling gear or just read a book while relaxing on the beach – the time is yours to fill. We’ll return to Ventura on a late afternoon ferry and reboard our motorcoach to return home. Because this is a rustic (yet scenic and adventurous experience), there are no guided tours, services or stores, and only non-flush toilets on the island; and, therefore, we recommend each guest bring a backpack with the items they’ll need including a large towel or small blanket, extra water, snacks, sun protection, etc.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health & wellness measures in place.
