On this fun and nostalgic journey, we’ll visit sites that had significant importance in the life of Walt Disney, a beloved man among children and adults alike. During his lifetime, he became an entertainment magnate and film pioneer and has been honored with 32 Academy Awards for his extraordinary achievements in film – more than any other person! We begin with a visit to the Stanley Ranch Museum, home to some of the oldest homes and businesses in Orange County. Amongst several fascinating buildings, dating back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, is Walt Disney’s first studio, a garage that was relocated here from its original site in North Hollywood after it was saved from demolition by The Friends of Walt Disney. “Uncle Robert’s Garage” was used by Walt as his first animation studio after he came to California in 1923, and it was in this garage that he created his first animated short film! We continue to Glendale where we’ll enjoy an included, three-course lunch with choice of entrée at the historic Tam O’Shanter Inn, the charming replica of a cozy Scottish Inn that is located just a few miles from Disney Studios in Burbank. Walt Disney ate here so often that it was commonly referred to as the “studio commissary.” This afternoon we’ll visit Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn, a living showcase of Walt’s passion for railroading that is only open one day per month! In 1950, Walt built a railroad in the backyard of his house in Holmby Hills and named the railroad for the street where he lived, Carolwood Drive. The 2,615 feet of track included a 46-foot-long trestle and a 90-foot-long tunnel under his wife's flower bed. In addition to the railroad, he had a barn built that served as a workshop, a place for Walt and his friends to relax from where he could monitor and remotely control the switches on the track. Before the Holmby Hills home was sold, Walt's daughter had the barn dismantled and donated it to Griffith Park to be shared with everyone who loved him. The Barn is located inside a 1/8th scale track, the same scale that Walt had at his home, and is filled with trains of all scales. A journey through Disney’s life wouldn’t be complete without a visit to his final resting place, at the beautiful Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Marvel at fun “Disney” stories and anecdotes during this nostalgic and celebrity-themed adventure that is led by our tour director, Jasmin, a former actress and Old Hollywood aficionado, who also leads our tribute tours to Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health & wellness measures in place.
