Experience the dramatic scenic contrasts of Southern California on an unforgettable, two-day escape through rolling mountains, colorful deserts, and sun-drenched vineyards. Travel picturesque backcountry roads to historic Julian, where mountain breezes carry the aroma of freshly baked apple pie, before descending into the vast wilderness of Anza-Borrego to marvel at vibrant wildflowers and larger-than-life desert sculptures. In Temecula Valley Wine Country, indulge in fine estate wines and sweeping vineyard vistas, rounded out by charming wooden boardwalks in Old Town. Anchoring the adventure is a luxurious overnight stay at the AAA Four Diamond Pechanga Resort Casino, offering world-class dining and gaming in a sophisticated, smoke-free setting. It’s the ultimate high-desert, mountain, and wine country getaway—seamlessly curated so you can sit back, relax, and savor every moment.
From our departure points this morning, we’ll travel south by deluxe motorcoach towards the picturesque backcountry of Santa Ysabel. Our first stop is the iconic Dudley’s California Bakery, a beloved local staple renowned for its selection of 43 varieties of freshly baked breads, pastries, cookies and fruit pies available for purchase. We’ll then wind along scenic mountain roads into Julian, an enchanting gold-rush town nestled beneath oak and pine canopies in the Cuyamaca Mountains (elevation 4,200’). Julian’s historic downtown district is lined with charming Victorian-era storefronts dating to the 1870s, where the irresistible aroma of warm spices fills the air—earning Julian its reputation as the apple pie capital of Southern California. Enjoy time at leisure to explore the town’s unique boutiques and pie shops selling a variety of apple pies and handcrafted ciders, with lunch on your own at a variety of eateries. This afternoon our journey continues over the Volcan Mountains as we descend into Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California’s largest state park. A knowledgeable local guide will join us to showcase the park’s striking geology, native flora, and storied history. While this typically delightful time of year is when wildflowers are most likely in bloom, the intensity and duration of the wildflower bloom varies from year to year and blooms are never certain, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed! We’ll stop to admire the whimsical Sky Art Sculptures in Borrego Springs—acclaimed artist Ricardo Breceda’s larger-than-life collection of metal creations, ranging from prehistoric beasts to mythical serpents with finely detailed iron scales and curling lashes. This evening we’ll arrive at the award-winning, AAA Four Diamond Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula for an overnight stay. This upscale and stylish smoke-free resort features elegantly-appointed guest rooms, an expansive 4.5-acre pool complex, award-winning dining options, and California’s largest casino floor, boasting over 200,000 square feet of world-class gaming including 4,500 state-of-the-art slot machines, 154 table games and a poker room with 38 tables.
Following an included breakfast and a relaxed morning to take advantage of the resort’s upscale amenities, we’ll venture into the heart of the picturesque Temecula Valley Wine Country. Here, sun-drenched rolling hills and vine-stitched slopes are home to nearly 50 boutique and family-owned wineries cultivating an impressive variety of varietals. Temecula’s award-winning vintages owe their distinction to nutrient-rich decomposed granite soils and an ideal microclimate, where morning coastal mists, warm afternoon sunshine, and refreshing ocean breezes give way to cool, starry desert nights. Our destination is the renowned Wilson Creek Winery, celebrated for its warm hospitality, estate vineyards, and lush garden grounds. Here, we’ll be treated to a guided behind-the-scenes winery tour, followed by a curated tasting of their acclaimed handcrafted wines and a hearty, included deli-style lunch buffet. This afternoon we’ll step back and enjoy time at leisure in historic Old Town Temecula. Stroll the wooden boardwalks of this vibrant 1880s Western district to explore antique shops, artisan boutiques, and tasting rooms at your own pace. Late this afternoon, we’ll board our motorcoach and return to our drop-off points this evening with many fond memories of our of our scenic getaway across mountain, desert, and wine country landscapes.
