Discover four of Los Angeles’ most distinguished and unique landmarks – in fact, they’re all L.A. Historic-Cultural Landmarks and each features a storied past! We begin on the campus of Mount Saint Mary’s University campus with a rare and unique opportunity to take a docent-guided tour of the opulent Doheny Mansion – former home of pioneering oil baron, Edward Doheny. The Gothic Renaissance-style Victorian mansion, not typically open to the general public, was designed in 1898 and its French Chateau-esque exterior alone incorporates elements of Gothic, English Tudor, and even California Mission styles. The interior features elegant art glass panels, gilt ornaments, Tuscan marble in Corinthian columns and a geometrically patterned floor. The Pompeiian Room retains a grandeur that is unmatched anywhere in
Los Angeles with its rare and magnificent dome featuring 2,836 pieces of gold favrile glass cast in the Long Island furnaces of Louis Comfort
Tiffany. Learn about the fascinating history of the Doheny family and the many movies and T.V. shows that have been filmed here including
Princess Diaries, Spiderman 3, Catch Me If You Can and The Three Amigos, just to name a few. We continue to St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic church with a magnificent Spanish Baroque style infused with California-mission architecture. It was built in the 1920s with money donated by Edward Doheny and has been an L.A. Historic-Cultural Monument since 1971. In downtown L.A., we’ll enjoy time at leisure for a late lunch (approximately 1:30 p.m.) on your own at Grand Central Market, the legendary landmark that brings together the eclectic cuisines and cultures of L.A. Also, enjoy an included donut from The Donut Man, the legendary donut shop that has been featured on Food Network, Cooking Channel and Visiting with Huell Howser. We’ll top off a memorable day with a ride on historic Angels Flight Railway, the world’s shortest railway. This L.A. Historic-Cultural Landmark since 1962 originally opened in 1901. It’s estimated the recently restored 123-year-old funicular has given more than 100 million rides to the top of Bunker Hill on its hillside track. In the rare event that Angels Flight is not operating, we will instead visit another historic site. This tour involves moderate walking.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health & wellness measures in place.
