On this newest addition to our California’s Mission Trail Tour Series, we’ll visit the 'King of the Missions' in Oceanside. We’ll travel south along the coast to Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, one of California’s most historic landmarks and cultural icons. Beginning with the arrival of the Spanish in Alta California in the 18th century, the story of the California Mission system and Mission San Luis Rey in particular, is told against a backdrop of historical buildings, inspiring artwork and unique artifacts. We’ll enjoy an included buffet lunch at the Mission as well as a docent-guided tour that includes access to the Mission, museum, church, cemetery, gardens and other private areas not included on the self-guided tour. Learn how the Franciscan Friars and Luiseno Indians built a remarkably successful community – both economically and spiritually – and how that legacy continues to this day. This afternoon we continue to a locals’ favorite pie shop that is housed in the historic 'Top Gun House' which appeared in the original 1986 film. Built in 1887, this Victorian home was recently moved from its original location in San Diego. Take a leisurely stroll on the Oceanside Pier while enjoying their award-winning, signature, hand-held pie. This tour involves moderate walking.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health and safety measures in place and require each guest show proof of vaccination and complete a Wellness Pledge.
