Embark on an extraordinary journey of discovery and take a deep dive into mankind’s visionary spirit and endless curiosity, on this excursion to two of L.A.’s most legendary scientific sites. Our journey 13 billion years in the making begins at the California Science Center as we experience the newest IMAX film, Deep Sky 3D. Sit back and embark on a journey to the beginning of time and space, to never-before-seen cosmic landscapes, and to recently discovered planets orbiting distant stars. This new original IMAX documentary reveals the universe as we have never seen it before; showcasing the stunning pictures beamed back to earth by NASA’s new telescope – and capturing their vast beauty at a scale that can only be experienced on the giant, 7-story IMAX screen! Follow the high-stakes global mission to build and test the $10 billion James Webb Space Telescope and its launch into orbit one-million miles from Earth, to answer questions that have haunted us since the beginning of time: Where did we come from? How did the universe begin? Are we alone? Enjoy time at leisure to browse the Science Center’s permanent exhibits (Space Shuttle Endeavour is off display for several years) with lunch on your own at the Science Center eateries (or bring a sack lunch to enjoy on-site). This afternoon, our journey continues at the Griffith Observatory, Southern California’s gateway to the cosmos! Built in 1935 on Mount Hollywood’s south facing slop, this Art Deco masterpiece provides unparalleled views of Hollywood and the downtown L.A. skyline. Enjoy time at leisure to enjoy the views of Hollywood and downtown, explore the magnificent astronomical exhibits, visit the gift shop and watch the Leonard Nimoy-narrated film, The Once and Future Griffith Observatory. The Samuel Oschin Planetarium offers several live shows that immerse you in the wonder and meaning of the cosmos by traveling to the farthest reaches of the universe and into the microscopic building blocks of life. Planetarium tickets (available for an additional fee of $8 senior/$10 adult) cannot be guaranteed as they are not available for pre-purchase and can only be purchased the day-of on a first-come-first-served basis at the Observatory’s box office.
