Incredible scenery and stories await in the land of powerful Sun Gods, ancient philosophers, and legendary Olympians. From the world-famous Acropolis in Athens, to the mountainside excavations of Delphi to the monastery-topped rock formations of Meteora to the stunning beauty that is Santorini, you’ll walk in the footsteps of Greece’s most renowned and mystical figures while experiencing the sights and tastes of modern Greece.
1 – Today board your overnight flight to Greece.
2 – Arrive in Athens. Meet your Tour Manager and transfer to your hotel for 3 nights. Athens is the capital and in many ways the birthplace of Classical Greece. Enjoy a welcome dinner this evening. (Dinner)
Today enjoy an Athens City Tour, showcasing the city's ancient and glorious monuments, such as the Temple of Zeus, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the ancient Olympic Stadium. It’s no doubt that one of the highlights of Athens is the Parthenon, standing tall on its perch atop the Acropolis overlooking the city. Enjoy a guided visit of this ancient UNESCO World Heritage Site, dedicated to the goddess Athena. Also visit the Acropolis Museum housing art, sculpture and historical pieces dating from the Mycenaean period. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to enjoy this amazing city. (Breakfast)
This morning enjoy a special Athens Central Market walking tour as you stroll with a local expert. A historic food market unlike any other in Europe, sample some of Athens most delicious culinary creations. Gain insight into Greece’s fascinating food culture, the evolution of the country’s cuisine and the healthy nature of locally produced, organic ingredients. Enjoy time at leisure before your afternoon excursion to Cape Sounion. Visit the ancient Temple of Poseidon with its magnificent panoramic view of the Aegean Sea. Cape Sounion has long played an important part in Greek mythology and history, and the first recorded mention of it occurs in the Odyssey. After visiting the Temple, we will wait to admire one of the most amazing sunsets you could ever imagine. And when the sun begins to slowly touch the sea, enjoy dinner before returning to Athens. (Breakfast, Dinner)
After breakfast, travel north through central Greece to Thermopylae. Stop to see a monument dedicated to Leonidas who died defending the city against the Persians. Continue to Kalambaka and explore this charming town. Visit the Kalambaka Icon Workshop. Byzantine Icons are created with the use of old traditional methods and visitors have the chance to watch this process in detail. Enjoy views of this naturally beautiful region as you transfer to your hotel. Enjoy dinner tonight. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Today is sure to be a highlight as you visit two Meteora Monasteries situated in a unique landscape of limestone rock “towers” that extend nearly 900 feet into the air. Over 600 years ago, Byzantine monks chose to build their monastic community perched atop these virtually inaccessible rocks. Later travel toward Delphi which clings to the side of Mount Parnassus at 2,000 feet. Our home for 2-nights will be the seaside town of Itea, situated on the north coast of the Gulf of Corinth. Located just a short drive from Ancient Delphi, it is an ideal base as you visit part of Greece. Enjoy dinner tonight and perhaps stroll the waterfront area for an after dinner treat. (Breakfast, Dinner)
This morning, visit the ancient city of Delphi, one of Greece’s most important religious centers during Classical times. Visit the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Doric Temple, the ancient theatre, and the Delphi Museum with its priceless collection of ancient artifacts. It was here the mysterious Oracle of Delphi breathed her enigmatic ‘words,' rumored to have successfully predicted events related to the Trojan War. After a comprehensive visit to Delphi, return to seaside Itea for an evening at leisure. Perhaps enjoy a meal at one of the many waterfront tavernas. (Breakfast)
Leave fascinating Delphi and head back toward Athens for your short flight to Santorini. Known as the “Black Pearl of the Aegean”, Santorini is the most breathtaking of all the Greek Islands. History and nature combine to make this one of the most unforgettable places in the world. Upon arrival, enjoy a Winery Tour & Tasting at a local producer. Learn about the local wine making process and enjoy the stunning views. Later check in to your hotel for 2-nights and enjoy dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)
After a leisurely morning, discover this paradise as you tour the island and its villages, including the most famous village, Oia. A quiet lifestyle, white-washed houses, blue-domed churches, winding lanes filled with boutiques and shops, tavernas, open air cafés and beautiful sunsets make this village postcard-perfect! Enjoy an included drink before enjoying one of the most iconic sunsets on the globe. Later return to your hotel. (Breakfast)
Wake to another Santorini morning and enjoy breakfast at your resort hotel. Visit to the excavation site of ancient Akrotiri, the most important prehistoric settlement found anywhere in the Eastern Mediterranean. Known as the "Minoan Pompeii," the flourishing town was at once destroyed and preserved by a volcanic eruption around 1450 B.C. Later board your flight back to Athens. Upon arrival to Athens, transfer to your hotel and enjoy an afternoon coffee at a local cafe or some time for last minute shopping. Tonight, experience an authentic Greek Taverna Farewell Dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Today transfer to the airport for your journey home after experiencing Classical Greece and Santorini. (Breakfast)
