Get away for the day and spend a spring Sunday in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park! If you choose to not add-on one of our available optional experiences, you’ll have approximately five hours at leisure to explore this garden and museum lover’s haven where you can experience natural beauty, wonderful art, culture, and stunning Spanish Revival architecture. Experience the free organ concert at the Spreckles Organ Pavilion, featuring the amazing Spreckels Organ containing more than 5,000 pipes! Relax in the shade of a century-old tree or on a bench watching butterflies in one of Balboa Park’s lush, uniquely landscaped gardens. From the sweet-smelling roses in the rose garden to the prickly cacti with beautiful blooms in the cactus garden, to brightly colored water lilies in the lily pond and outstanding orchids in the Botanical Building, the gardens here are endless and free (except for the Japanese Friendship Garden which does charge an admission on-site). The museums here are as diverse as the gardens and include the San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Natural History Museum, San Diego Air & Space Museum, San Diego Automotive Museum, San Diego Model Railroad Museum, San Diego History Center, Museum of Us, Museum of Photographic Arts, Mingei International Museum, Fleet Science Center and others (some museums have separate admission fees payable on-site). Enjoy lunch on your own at one of the Balboa Park eateries or bring a sack lunch.
Art Alive
Or, you may want to take advantage of an optional included admission to the nationally renowned San Diego Museum of Art to experience the permanent exhibits and Art Alive, the exquisite annual spring exhibit that is in full bloom this weekend only! Talented floral designers create nearly 100 floral interpretations of works of art from the museum’s permanent collection and produce a dazzling floral display in the museum’s rotunda – culminating in a museum filled with a kaleidoscope of color and fragrance. This awe-inspiring, glorious spectacle of world-class art and unique flower arrangements has become the most widely attended events of its kind in the U.S.
San Diego Zoo
Or, you may want to take advantage of an optional included admission to the San Diego Zoo. Celebrating its 108th year in 2024, the San Diego Zoo is consistently recognized as one of the world’s greatest zoos! Animal lovers from all around the world flock – no pun intended – to this world-class zoo to admire the stunning variety of animals amongst the 100 lush acres nestled into the canyons and mesas of Balboa Park. Already home to some of the world’s rarest wildlife, the San Diego Zoo continues to evolve and leads the way in animal habitat innovation, providing more natural settings for animals, often with different species living together. This reflects the more modern approach of zoos and a focus on conservation, rather than entertainment. The newest exhibits here include Africa Rocks, Australian Outback, Sun Bear Forest, Absolutely Apes, Elephant Odyssey and the Polar Bear Plunge. Enjoy approximately 5 hours at leisure with an included “deluxe ticket” package so you can explore the Zoo as you wish. Enjoy unlimited access to scheduled shows, the Guided Bus Tour which is a narrated driving tour highlighting the main areas of the Zoo, the Kangaroo Express Bus which allows you to hop-on and hop-off at various locations, and the Skyfari Aerial Tram which transports you from one side
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health & wellness measures in place. the Zoo to the other. Enjoy lunch on your own at the Zoo, at one of the Balboa Park eateries, or bring a sack lunch.
