Experience the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures – the largest institution in the U.S. devoted to the arts, sciences, and artists of moviemaking! Reconnect with cinema classics and discover new favorites as you explore this museum that celebrates the past, present, and future of moviemaking. It’s filled with eye-catching, innovative exhibits dedicated to the history of film and showcases iconic movie memorabilia including Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, Gregory Peck's annotated script pages from To Kill a Mockingbird, the typewriter used to write the screenplay for Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, the tablets from The Ten Commandments, the only surviving shark mold from Jaws, a stop motion capture device used in the making of Jurassic Park, R2D2 and much more. An area featuring Oscar statuettes is dedicated to historic Oscar winners. The Stories of Cinema galleries showcase a variety of experiences and perspectives on the arts and sciences of moviemaking, as well as the process behind making films. On display for a limited time, The Art of Moviemaking: The Godfather, featuring original objects from The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather Part II (1974) offering an exciting glimpse at the process of making a masterpiece. From costumes to makeup elements, props, scripts, and equipment, these materials – many on view for the first time – highlight the contributions of the cinematic branches, and how they innovated amid the changing landscape of Hollywood. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, the museum has restored and revitalized the historic May Company building on Wilshire Blvd. in the heart of L.A.’s Miracle Mile. This afternoon, enjoy time at leisure for lunch on your own and browsing at The Original Farmers Market and The Grove, each offering a variety of restaurants and eateries. Items on display at the museum are subject to change.
