Activity Level 3
Anchors Aweigh! This fine tour to “America’s Finest City” begins as we motorcoach south and enjoy the spectacular ocean views along this protected stretch of coastline. We’ll visit Liberty Station, the bustling “anchor of San Diego,” that features grand Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and is situated on the former home of the Naval Training Center. Enjoy time at leisure for lunch on your own at a variety of eateries including Liberty Public Market – the indoor market that features a variety of local vendors offering fresh produce, artisanal goods, and delicious cuisine from around the world. We’ll enjoy an included sweet treat from a locals’ favorite and then continue to Cabrillo National Monument to savor the panoramic views of San Diego Bay, Naval Base Coronado and the Pacific Ocean. Located at the southern tip of the Point Loma Peninsula, this monument commemorates the landing of Portuguese¬ explorer, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo at San Diego Bay in 1542. This afternoon we’ll step aboard the USS Midway aircraft carrier and enter a floating “city at sea” and walk in the footsteps of 225,000 Midway sailors as you relive nearly 50 years of world history aboard America’s longest-serving aircraft carrier. Enjoy approximately two hours at leisure to explore the ship with an included, award-winning audio tour narrated by Midway sailors (please bring your own wired earbuds/headphones). Experience life at sea as you explore the crew’s sleeping quarters, the massive galley, engine room, jail, officer’s quarters, post office, machine shops, the pilot’s ready rooms, and the bridge located high on the island overlooking the flight deck. Walk the flight deck among the collection of more than 30 restored aircraft and take in spectacular views of the downtown skyline, Coronado Bridge, and active U.S. Navy ships! This tour involves moderate walking. Because of the historic nature of the ship, not all areas are easily accessible by guests with mobility issues. Closed-toed shoes required.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health & wellness measures in place.
