Experience the magic of fall foliage in New England! As you travel the back roads through Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine you’ll pass traditional white steeple churches, quaint villages, covered bridges and old whaling villages dotted with lighthouses and widows’ walks. This journey through five New England states highlights the landmark sites, historic homes, farms and nature’s dramatic shift in color as Autumn descends on this picturesque and historic region.

Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Sunday, 10/3/2021 - Arrive Boston, Sturbridge
Optional transfers from home or our departure points this morning will have us at the Los Angeles Int’l Airport for a scheduled, non-stop flight arriving in Boston this afternoon. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should arrive at Boston’s Logan Airport by 4:00 p.m. if they want to be included on the complimentary transfer from the airport to the hotel. We’ll board our deluxe motorcoach and travel to Sturbridge, Massachusetts where we’ll begin a two-night stay.
Day 2
Monday, 10/4/2021 - Sturbridge, The Berkshires
Following an included breakfast, we’ll spend the morning exploring Old Sturbridge Village, a recreated 1830’s rural community with more than 40 restored buildings. This living history museum depicts life in an early 19th century rural Village, featuring costumed historians, antique buildings, water-powered mills and a working farm. This afternoon we’ll travel into The Berkshires – the lush and beautiful rural, mountainous region of western Massachusetts which typically is awash in colorful leaves this time of year. At the Norman Rockwell Museum, we’ll see Rockwell’s original studio and the world’s largest collection of his original paintings, including the Four Freedoms and many from The Saturday Evening Post. Enjoy an included dinner at a locals’ favorite in Sturbridge, the historic town which is a portrait of old New England charm.
Day 3
Tuesday, 10/5/2021 - Massachusetts to Vermont, Hartford
After an included breakfast, we’ll travel to Connecticut’s capital city of Hartford and tour the Mark Twain House & Museum, Twain’s beloved homestead. This Victorian Gothic masterpiece decorated by Louis Comfort Tiffany is where Mark Twain wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. While enjoying an included lunch and touring the modest, Victorian Harriet Beecher Stowe House, we’ll gain insights into “the little lady who started the Civil War” (as Lincoln called her) by penning Uncle Tom’s Cabin. We continue north through the scenic Pioneer Valley to the world-famous Vermont Country Store. Home to “purveyors of the practical and hard-to-find,” this family-run emporium harkens back to the general stores of bygone days. This evening we begin a two-night stay at a premier mountain resort.
Day 4
Wednesday, 10/6/2021 - Vermont
Following an included breakfast, we’ll be joined by a local guide and visit the Calvin Coolidge Historic Site – the birthplace and boyhood home of our 30th President that is surrounded by a village that is virtually unchanged since the early 20th century. We’ll enjoy time at leisure in the quintessential New England town of Woodstock – home to one of Vermont’s iconic covered bridges. We continue our search of vibrant colors amongst the Green Mountains of Vermont. We’ll tour Hildene, the summer estate of Robert Todd Lincoln and his wife Mary Harlan Lincoln. This spectacular, 24-room, 1905 Georgian Revival mansion was the home of the only Lincoln descendants until 1975.
Day 5
Thursday, 10/7/2021 - Vermont, New Hampshire
After an included breakfast we’ll visit a Vermont family farm that specializes in cheddar cheese and maple sugar. Sample a variety of cheeses and different grades of syrup and learn how the maple sap is drawn and converted into Vermont’s famous export. Visit Quechee Gorge, known as Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon.” This afternoon we continue to the magnificent White Mountains of New Hampshire. At Cannon Mountain we’ll board the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway for a short ride to the summit for spectacular views of four states and Canada! We continue to the AAA Four Diamond Omni Mount Washington Resort for an overnight stay. This National Historic Landmark that opened in 1902 is as grand as the history behind it. A favorite New England retreat of presidents, poets and celebrities, this hotel delights every sense with enchanting music, refined dining and luxurious décor. Enjoy a guided tour and included dinner at the hotel this evening.
Day 6
Friday, 10/8/2021 - New Hampshire to Maine, Massachusetts
After an included breakfast, we’ll travel the scenic route through New Hampshire’s Crawford Notch to Maine. We’ll enjoy time at leisure to explore the the iconic Portland Head Light – commissioned by George Washington, it is the oldest lighthouse in Maine! Visit the former keeper’s house to browse the museum with exhibits displaying artifacts and documents, navigational aids, Fresnel lenses, models and photographs. This evening we arrive on Massachusetts’ North Shore and begin a two-night stay in the seaside village of Rockport.
Day 7
Saturday, 10/9/2021 - Massachusetts' North Shore
Following an included breakfast, we’ll be joined by a local guide for a driving tour of Marblehead and Salem. Hear the infamous story of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 and learn of Salem’s illustrious role during the “Great Age of Sail.” Visit the Salem Witch Museum which examines one of the most enduring and emotional events in American History...the Witch Trials. We continue to Gloucester – America’s oldest fishing port and home to the Andrea Gale – the infamous fishing boat that went down in “The Perfect Storm.” We continue to Bearskin Neck in the harbor town of Rockport with time at leisure to explore the boutiques and photograph Motif Number 1, a fishing shack known as “the most often-painted building in America.” At Beauport Mansion, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of this 40-room, National Historic Landmark perched on a rock ledge overlooking Gloucester Harbor. Enjoy an included lobster dinner (alternative entrée available) this evening.
Day 8
Sunday, 10/10/2021 - Boston, Journey Home
After an included breakfast, we return to Boston where we’ll join a local guide for a driving tour of Boston – the birthplace of American liberty. We’ll follow in the footsteps of American history as we visit sights along the Freedom Trail. See Boston Common, The Old South Meeting House, Faneuil Hall and the Old State House – site of the Boston Massacre. This afternoon we’ll board our scheduled non-stop flight from Boston to Los Angeles. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should depart the Boston Airport no earlier than 4:00 p.m. if they want to be included on the complimentary transfer to the airport. Those with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective drop-off points with many fond memories of our time in New England.
