Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Thursday, 12/9/2021 - Coastal Train Ride
We set out from our departure points this morning for the tranquility of California’s Central Coast. We’ll travel by deluxe motorcoach to downtown Los Angeles’ Union Station to board Amtrak’s Coast Starlight train for a memorable five-hour rail journey along California’s spectacular coastline and through its fertile valleys to San Luis Obispo. We’ll travel along Point Conception and through Vandenberg Air Force Base where you’ll see the launch complexes and beautiful undeveloped coastline only visible by train. You are free to move around the train, get lunch from the snack bar or enjoy a waiter-served lunch on your own in the dining car (based on availability). Check out the view from the observation car or just relax in your reclining seat. Upon arrival in San Luis Obispo, our motorcoach will be waiting to take us the short distance to the charming Apple Farm Inn  – our accommodations for the next two nights. Nestled by San Luis Obispo Creek and surrounded by rolling hills, the Apple Farm Inn is a “country rustic,” AAA Four Diamond, Victorian-style inn situated among a lush, quiet garden setting. The inn blends the country charm of yesteryear with all of the modern comforts of today including a seating nook and fireplace in every comfy cozy room and a heated pool year round. This time of year, the whole property is decked out in its holiday finest with a myriad of trees, lights, gifts, and decorations to get you in the mood for the season! After enjoying the inn’s complimentary wine reception, we’ll head to downtown San Luis Obispo’s lively, open-air, Farmers’ Market. Enjoy time at leisure strolling amongst four historic blocks filled with just-picked produce for sale, local restaurants selling a variety of barbecued specialties and entertaining local performers. This one-night-a-week event is undoubtedly one of the most treasured events on the Central Coast and has a long history of bringing locals and visitors together to eat, shop, listen to music and connect amongst this historic community. Should the Farmers’ Market not be open for any reason, we will enjoy dinner on your own at one of the downtown San Luis Obispo restaurants.
Day 2
Friday, 12/10/2021 - Central Coast Sightseeing
Enjoy an included breakfast this morning at the Apple Farm Inn before we travel to Avila Beach and enjoy the breathtaking ocean views as we travel along Lighthouse Road to Point San Luis Lighthouse, known as the “Jewel of the Central Coast.” The historic Light Station Park, built in 1890, enjoys dramatic vistas stretching from Avila to Vandenberg. Learn what life was like for the Lighthouse Keeper and his family and experience a rich history as we tour the grounds, the beautifully restored Lighthouse, the Hornhouse, and see the lustrous original Fresnel lens. Then, take your seat for an included lunch inside this restored historic landmark. After time to relax at the Apple Farm Inn this afternoon, we’ll enjoy an included dinner with choice of entrée at a locals’ favorite this evening. We’ll then continue to Field of Light at Sensorio located in a valley between rolling hills just east of downtown Paso Robles. This enormous, multi-acre walk-through installation is comprised of nearly 60,000 spherical “flowers” that are lit by fiber-optics gently illuminating the landscape in subtle blooms of morphing color. As you stroll along the flat, lit trail at your own pace, you’ll be amazed by this stunning display of “solar flowers” that create a living kaleidoscope of color. And just unveiled and now on display, is the new Light Towers installation, a stunning new exhibit that celebrates Paso Robles’ wine heritage. These colorful 6-foot-tall towers composed of more than 17,000 wine bottles, are illuminated with glowing optic fibers whose colors morph to a moving musical score.

Day 3
Saturday, 12/11/2021 - La Purisima Mission, Solvang, Journey Home
After an included breakfast this morning at the Apple Farm Inn, we head south to La Purisima Mission State Park, providing an opportunity to explore California’s early heritage. Founded in 1787 as the 11th of 21 Franciscan Missions, the La Purisima Mission is considered the most completely restored mission in California, with ten of the original buildings fully restored and furnished. Get a glimpse of what life was like here in the 1820s, when the residents engaged in weaving, pottery making, candle making, blacksmithing, livestock production, and leather work. We continue to Solvang, America’s famous “Little Denmark.” This time of year, the quaint old-world architectural styles and flower-lined streets are beautifully decorated for the holidays. Enjoy time at leisure to browse the wonderful shops that offer imported European wares and collectibles with  lunch on your own in the delicious restaurants. For a true taste of Danish culture, sample the delicious pastries offered by Solvang’s authentic local bakeries.  We continue south to our drop-off points, arriving this evening with many fond memories of our holiday getaway to the Apple Farm Inn.
