Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Friday, 9/3/2021 - Welcome to Anchorage
Optional transfers from home or our departure points this morning will have you at the Los Angeles International Airport for a flight to Anchorage, Alaska. Those guests not taking advantage of the optional group airfare, should arrive at the Anchorage International Airport by 8:00 p.m. if they want to receive the included “meet and greet” at the airport followed by an included transfer from the airport to the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel, meet your Alaskan tour director and begin an overnight stay.
Day 2
Saturday, 9/4/2021 - Anchorage to Valdez
Following an included breakfast, embark on a panoramic tour of Anchorage. Explore Anchorage’s historic downtown area, visit Lake Hood, Earthquake Park and the Alaska Native Heritage Center. This afternoon, travel south along the scenic Seward Highway to the port town of Whittier to board a ferry for a scenic journey through Prince William Sound. As you travel through these pristine waters, keep an eye out for an amazing array of wildlife including seals, sea lions, otters, whales and puffin. Enjoy an included dinner onboard. This evening, arrive in the quaint port community of Valdez for an overnight stay.
Day 3
Sunday, 9/5/2021 - Valdez to Fairbanks
After an included breakfast, continue north by motorcoach into Alaska’s interior. The route follows the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and skirts along Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the largest national park in the United States. Arrive in Fairbanks this evening and begin a two-night stay.
Day 4
Monday, 9/6/2021 - Fairbanks
Following an included breakfast, enjoy a driving tour of Fairbanks – known to Alaskans as the “Golden Heart City.” Learn how the gold rush affected Alaska’s interior during a visit to the Museum of the North at the University of Alaska. Enjoy time at leisure for browsing and lunch on your own in downtown Fairbanks. This afternoon, board an authentic Alaskan sternwheeler, the Riverboat Discovery, and take a journey back in time along the Chena and Tanana Rivers to experience what life was like when traditional riverboats plied the waterways here in the late 1800’s. This evening, enjoy an included, authentic salmon bake dinner.
Day 5
Tuesday, 9/7/2021 - Fairbanks to Denali
Following an included breakfast, continue south by motorcoach to Denali National Park (elevation, 4,000 feet). Denali National Park & Preserve features North America’s highest mountain, Mt. Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley) and is one of the world’s last unspoiled frontiers. You’ll join a certified naturalist-guide on a 6-8-hour Tundra Wilderness Tour that takes you deep into the wilds of Denali National Park, a six-million-acre UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Traveling through forest and alpine tundra and over high mountain passes, you may see quintessential Alaska wildlife such as moose, caribou, Dall sheep, wolves and grizzly bears. Depending on weather and visibility you may catch a glimpse of the awe-inspiring Mt. Denali itself – North America’s highest peak at 20,310 feet. Late this afternoon, arrive at your resort located at the entrance to Denali National Park.
Day 6
Wednesday, 9/8/2021 - Alaska Railroad to Talkeetna
Enjoy an included breakfast followed by a short transfer to the Denali Park Train Depot to board the deluxe, railcars of the world-famous Alaska Railroad’s Denali Star Train. Your Adventure Class seating offers comfortable seats and large picture windows with the option to take advantage of open seating in the Vista Dome cars. Sit back, relax and enjoy a four-hour rail journey south through some of the most scenic and rugged territory in Alaska. Later, arrive in the quaint, climbing town of Talkeetna which began as a trading post when gold was first discovered on the Susitana River. You’ll enjoy an overnight stay in Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, a custom designed, authentic Alaskan Lodge. Relax in a rocking chair by the crackling fire in a giant, 46-foot high river rock fireplace and enjoy the unforgettable views of Mount Denali and the Alaska Range.
Day 7
Thursday, 9/9/2021 - Talkeetna to Anchorage
Following an included breakfast, you’ll have the morning at leisure to explore Talkeetna on your own. Or take advantage of optional excursions (with additional fees) such as white-water rafting, a scenic float trip, a scenic jet boat ride, flight-seeing Mt. Denali, a Denali photo tour and many others. Note that all optional excursions are subject to change and all excursions may not be available. All bookings/payments are made with your tour director while on tour. This afternoon, we’ll reboard the motorcoach and continue south to Anchorage. This evening, enjoy an included farewell dinner with your traveling companions before an overnight stay in Anchorage.
Day 8
Friday, 9/10/2021 - Anchorage, Journey Home
Your Alaska tour comes to an end with an included transfer to the Anchorage Int’l Airport and a return flight to Los Angeles. Those guests not taking advantage of the optional group airfare, may depart the Anchorage Int’l Airport at any time today. Back in Los Angeles, those with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective drop-off destinations.

Optional Rail, Glacier & Wildlife Cruise

Take advantage of this optional excursion on Day 8 for an additional $395 per person. Early in the morning (approximately 5:30 a.m.), you’ll be transferred from the Anchorage hotel to the Anchorage Rail Depot where you will board Alaska Railroad’s Coastal Classic Train. Your GoldStar Class seating features premium, reclining, forward-facing seats, a tour guide providing narration, glass-dome ceilings allowing for 360-degree views and an outdoor, upper-level viewing platform. As you enjoy an included breakfast onboard, you’ll travel south toward Seward along Alaska’s scenic Turnagain Arm. In Seward you’ll enjoy a glacier and wildlife cruise through the calm, protected waters of Resurrection Bay surrounding Kenai Fjords National Park. This fully narrated cruise includes lunch onboard and will allow for sightings of alpine glaciers tucked in the surrounding Chugach and Kenai Mountain Ranges. Wildlife sightings may include orca whales, humpback whales, Dall’s porpoises, Steller sea lions, sea otters, harbor seals, puffins, bald eagles, and many species of marine birds. Upon your return to Seward, board your deluxe motorcoach for a scenic transfer to Anchorage. Upon arrival into Anchorage (approximately 9:30 p.m.) you’ll be dropped off at the Anchorage Airport for your red-eye flight or you can take advantage of a post-night hotel stay (additional fee).

The land portion of this tour is operated by Premier Alaska Tours, a local tour operator that specializes in this region and provides a professional, Alaskan tour director to lead the group upon arrival in Alaska. A Good Times Travel tour director will accompany our group only with a minimum number of guests. The tour will operate with a driver-guide in a Sprinter van with nine or fewer guests. Optional pre-night and post-night hotel stays (with included breakfast) are available to lengthen your time in Alaska and allow further personal exploration in Anchorage.
