Today we escape to the beautiful Tehachapi Valley, a mountain oasis (elevation 4,000’) between the San Joaquin Valley and the Mojave Desert, offering picturesque views and a cool haven from the desert heat. While it’s a little quiet mountain town now, Tehachapi was once an old stage depot, cowboy town and has a unique railroad history to boot. Enjoy an included lunch at an authentically charming German bakery and café located in historic downtown Tehachapi. Boasting old-world charm and delicious cuisine, the bakery is known for its fresh-baked bread that is made from scratch on-site daily. This afternoon a local railroad guide will come aboard our motorcoach and provide a driving tour to see the famous Tehachapi Train Loop, where tracks pass over themselves in a circular loop to allow trains to gain elevation in a steep area without exceeding a 2.2 percent grade. The new Tehachapi Loop Overlook provides spectacular views this engineering marvel that has been named one of the railroad wonders of the world! Enjoy time at leisure exploring the innovative exhibits and memorabilia at the Tehachapi Depot Railroad Museum. The number of artifacts, models and photographs which were collected by one man with a passion for trains is astounding! From the museum’s deck we may see trains run across the tracks. We’ll top off the day with a visit to an alpaca ranch that is a truly magical place tucked into Tehachapi. You’ll have an opportunity to meet the alpacas, inquisitive and friendly creatures that have luxurious fleece, captivating faces and a gentle nature – you will fall in love! We'll learn lots of interesting facts and some of the quirky things about these unique animals. Your visit includes an opportunity to feed them – and since alpacas don't have top front teeth, they don't bite and are eager to eat from your hand. Enjoy time to browse the shop, where you'll find many items made from alpaca fleece such as hats, scarves and gloves, as well as other alpaca-themed items. This tour involves minimal walking over uneven terrain.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health and safety measures in place.
