Breathe in the crisp mountain air and celebrate autumn as we travel to Big Bear, the charming mountain town nestled in the beautiful pine forests atop the San Bernardino Mountains (elevation 6,700 feet). Today we’ll delight in the sounds, tastes and camaraderie of one of the best German celebrations this side of Munich and known as “the number one Oktoberfest in California.” The mountain air stirs up a unique blend of “Getmütlichkeit” at this authentic celebration that is based on the lore of the world’s original Oktoberfest in Germany. Over the last 50 years, the Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest has established its own traditions while holding onto its old-world charm. The festival features German-style entertainment, brats and knockwursts from Germany, and the very same beers poured at Munich’s Oktoberfest! Enjoy an included three-course lunch with choice of entrée, sides, apple strudel and an included beer or glass of wine. We’ll provide ample time to enjoy the live bands, dancing, games and exhibitors at the outdoor “Budentrasse.” This afternoon we’ll board the Big Bear Queen paddle-wheeler for a 90-minute cruise on Big Bear Lake. Your boat captain is a Big Bear native and life-long resident and provides extensive narration about Big Bear Valley’s history (going back to the Gold Rush) and folklore while showcasing the sights including solar observatory, Garstin Island, celebrity homes, the story of the Four Dams and more. The Big Bear Queen has both shaded and un-shaded seating. This tour involves moderate walking as well as driving on mountain roads. The historic Big Bear Queen is not wheelchair accessible. |
