Professional step-on guide, Curt – who is not only a history buff with an expertise on the evolution of Los Angeles, but also a true foodie known for his creative and memorable food adventures – leads the way on this popular culinary adventure. Today we’ll explore the culture and history of the diverse Asian communities of Los Angeles, with a chance to taste sweet and savory Asian foods in Chinatown, Little Tokyo and Koreatown. Visit the Chinese American Museum, symbolically housed in the oldest and last surviving structure of L.A.’s original Chinatown. This is the first museum in Southern California dedicated to the Chinese American experience and history in this region. Drive through Chinatown and admire the bright and festive colors that adorn the shops and buildings. We’ll visit Koreatown, one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Encompassing roughly 3 square miles, this area was once the epicenter of Golden Age Hollywood, home to the Ambassador Hotel, the Cocoanut Grove and the Brown Derby. Today it is one of the city’s hippest areas thanks to the continuing renovation of its rich architectural heritage. Here we’ll enjoy an included traditional Japanese Shabu-Shabu hot pot lunch consisting of thinly sliced meat that is healthy, hardy, and satisfying. This fabulous, all-you-can-eat lunch includes USDA prime grade ribeye steak, thinly sliced free-range Jidori chicken breast, seafood, assorted vegetables and more. In Little Tokyo we’ll see the colorful Fire Tower and Buddhist Temples and learn about this historic, cultural, and vibrant Asian enclave with roots dating back to the 1880s. Our knowledgeable guide will lead us on a short, guided walking tour of Little Tokyo which bustles with activity and authenticity – from the steaming platters of hand-stretched noodles to the stylish restaurants and stores filled with Japanese heritage. We’ll pause to try the “World’s Best Cream Puffs” from Beard Papa’s, a popular bakery chain that originated in Japan. This tour involves moderate walking. Locations and menu subject to change.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health and safety measures in place and require each guest show proof of vaccination and complete a Wellness Pledge.
