This is always an especially wonderful time to visit the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum because of the popular Christmas Around the World exhibit, boasting 26 exquisitely decorated Christmas trees representing the 26 countries that Reagan visited while in office. Decorations encompass the bright and festive colors of the Caribbean, the crystals of the Nordic countries and the traditional decorations of England and Europe. Of particular note is the Vatican tree decorated entirely with white ornaments featuring a life-size white peacock that adorns the tree’s branches. The featured tree is an elegant reproduction of President and Mrs. Reagan’s White House tree complete with “Reagan Red” decorations and dozens of hand-blown glass ornaments. On display to celebrate Chanukah will be a collection of beautiful hand-crafted Menorahs that were given to President Reagan while in the White House. Enjoy approximately 5 hours at leisure to explore this state-of-the-art museum which features 18 galleries that pay tribute to America’s 40th president. Visit a full-scale replica of Reagan’s Oval Office, see a piece of the Berlin Wall, explore interactive exhibits, read letters written by President Reagan to Nancy and pay your respects at their final resting place with spectacular views of the Conejo Valley. The Air Force One Pavilion features a presidential limousine and secret service suburban, a Marine One helicopter and the Air Force One airplane that served seven U.S. Presidents. Also, on view for a limited time, FBI: From Al Capone to Al Qaeda – an 11,000 square foot exhibition which covers the history of the storied agency from inception to its modern-day efforts to fight domestic terrorism. The exhibit focuses on the FBI’s creation, evolution and its major cases. An FBI lab set-up will showcase technological advancements while a gallery will focus on the FBI in film and pop culture. Artifacts on display include items from J. Edgar Hoover’s office and estate as well as evidence from the FBI’s most iconic cases including Al Capone, John Dillinger, the Patty Hearst kidnapping, Oklahoma City Bombing, the Unabomber, the DC Beltway Snipers and 9/11. See the bullet-ridden car in which Bonnie and Clyde met their fate, John Dillinger’s death mask, the raft and paddle used in the only escape from Alcatraz, Donnie Brasco’s undercover documents and the original manifesto written by the Unabomber. This is the first time that many of these remarkable, historic artifacts and criminal evidence have been on public display together. Enjoy lunch on your own at the Library’s Gipper’s Bar + Bistro.
