This unique desert adventure and true Old West experience in the Coachella Valley is not only a fully immersive and desert sensory experience, but a whole lot of fun! We’ll travel to Thousand Palms and visit an authentic, secluded desert ranch-camp that features a rustic motif and offers genuine hospitality. We’ll board a mule-drawn covered wagon for a fun and fascinating narrated journey through the pristine 30,000-acre Coachella Valley Desert Preserve. There’s no better way to experience the desert than out on the trail – just like the early settlers did! We’ll learn about the flora and fauna, palm forests, and rugged landscapes of the desert as we meander along parts of the infamous San Andreas Fault, Horseshoe Palms and through the Hidden Palms Oasis. While drawing our wagon across long-established desert trails, our knowledgeable, naturalist will provide incredible insight into the ecology, biology, geology, anthropology and history of this region. The modernized wagon features padded seats and inflated rubber tires for a smooth, comfortable and one-of-a-kind experience. Back at camp we’ll enjoy an authentic, chuck wagon cookout featuring slow cooked brisket, barbecued chicken, cowboy beans, prairie coleslaw, rolls, apple pie and lemonade. Enjoy the sounds of live western music while taking in the spectacular panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and the San Jacinto Mountain range. We’ll top off a memorable experience with s’mores and hot chocolate around an open campfire (or refreshing lemonade, if more suitable to the weather). No visit to the Coachella Valley is complete without a stop at Hadley Fruit Orchards. Founded in 1931, this southern California landmark has provided a friendly place to shop for premium quality Medjool dates, dried fruit, nuts, hand-mixed trail mixes, honey, preserves, freshly-ground peanut butter and a variety of gifts. At the snack bar is where you’ll find their famous date shakes! This tour involves moderate walking over uneven terrain and stepping up into a covered wagon.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health and safety measures in place.
