Turn-of-the-century glamour and charm meets Pasadena's golden era when Castle Green celebrates the holidays! Normally closed to the public, one afternoon each holiday season, the doors of the famed Castle Green are opened so we can admire one of the most historic and cherished buildings in Pasadena all dressed up for the holidays. Built in 1898 as a lavish resort for wealthy easterners seeking California sunshine, this timeless building has hosted celebrities, presidents and film crews and is now the private residence of Pasadena designers, musicians, collectors and artists. Architect Frederick I. Roehrig drew on Moorish, Spanish and Victorian stylistic elements to create one of Southern California’s most stunningly original buildings where sophistication meets history in an eclectic mix of mystery and beauty. This special, timed-entry event provides the unique opportunity to take a step back in time and attend a spectacular holiday party hosted within its walls. Enjoy fantastic entertainment featuring live piano performances and a DJ, along with included holiday snacks and refreshments. On this self-guided tour, access is given to the entire ground floor of this magnificent estate, and its grounds, so you may roam this 120+ year-old building and admire the different designs and holidays decorations in the Grand Salon, the Palm Room, the Sunroom, the Moorish and Turkish Rooms, the Veranda and the lobby featuring an incredible crystal chandelier and grand staircase. Following, enjoy time at leisure for browsing and lunch on your own in Old Pasadena, a nationally registered historic district that features more than 300 restaurants and shops housed in architecturally significant buildings along tree-lined side streets and charming alleyways.
