Get away for the day to San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park and experience a highly anticipated exhibition at the nationally renowned San Diego Museum of Art. On display for a limited time is Monet to Matisse – Impressionist Masterpieces from the Bemberg Foundation, one of only two showcases in the U.S. The extraordinary works in this exhibition were collected by Georges Bemberg, the Argentine-French writer and musician who amassed one of the finest art collections in Europe. Normally housed at the Hótel d’Assézat in Toulouse, France, this exhibition marks the first time this collection – which rarely leaves its permanent home in France – has traveled to California. The collection is known for both its old masters as well as the avant-garde movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries – and in particular, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and related movements, such as Pointillism and Fauvism. In addition to the exhibit, you’ll have a total of approximately five hours at leisure to explore the San Diego Museum of Art’s permanent collection and Balboa Park, a place where you can experience natural beauty, wonderful art, culture, and stunning Spanish Revival architecture. Balboa Park boasts lush, uniquely landscaped gardens from end to end. From the sweet-smelling roses in the rose garden to the prickly cacti with beautiful blooms in the cactus garden, to brightly colored water lilies in the lily pond, the gardens are endless and free (except for the Japanese Friendship Garden which does charge an admission payable on-site). The free Sunday afternoon organ concert at the Spreckles Organ Pavilion is always a treat! Enjoy lunch on your own at one of the Balboa Park eateries or bring a sack lunch.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will operate with additional health and safety measures in place and require each guest show proof of vaccination and complete a Wellness Pledge.
