Holy Guacamole! Today we head to Fallbrook, self-proclaimed “Avocado Capitol of the World,” for the annual Fallbrook Avocado Festival. Fallbrook’s charming downtown will be filled with colorful booths and local artisans selling unique arts and crafts, clothing and jewelry. The farmers market features local, farm-fresh produce (yes, including avocados) for sale. The food court, wine garden and beer garden offer a variety of food and drink for purchase. Check out the winners of avocado cooking contests, buy funky avocado-themed gifts and enjoy local live entertainment. We’ll then continue to Monserate Winery, a boutique winery surrounded by 116 pristine acres in the rolling hills of Fallbrook’s Gird Valley. For 56 years this land was occupied by a public golf course. After the golf course fell on hard times, the current owners of the winery had a vision of how to revitalize the land, while utilizing the Fallbrook climate which is similar to that of Italy’s prolific wine-producing regions. During our included wine tasting, we’ll enjoy sipping different varietals while surrounded by a beautiful landscape of Italian grapevines, 100-year-old oak and sycamore trees and a tranquil lake. |
