This new tour that features animal interactions, great food and wine begins at the Wildlife Learning Center which provides lifelong, loving care to more than 100 displaced, rescued and zoo-born wild animals including a number of threatened and endangered species. Nestled in an old olive grove in Sylmar, this shady natural environment has become the perfect home to an incredible variety of unique animals including a sloth, porcupine, armadillo, hedgehog, ring-tailed lemur, tortoise, eagle owl and bald eagle, just to name a few. A knowledgeable biologist will provide an up-close animal encounter before time to explore the animal enclosures at your leisure. We continue to Old Town Newhall and enjoy an included lunch with choice of entrée and a glass of wine at Reyes Winery on Main, a locals’ favorite restaurant that pairs fine cuisine with wine made at the Reyes Winery in nearby Aqua Dolce. Since 2002 the Reyes family has been perfecting their ultra-premium wines and expanding their once boutique wine into an award-winning, nationally recognized treasure. This afternoon we’ll visit Guide Dogs of America, where for over 70 years dogs have been trained to assist the visually impaired. You’ll learn how the dogs are trained and placed with their owners, and while we won't see training taking place, we will have the opportunity to meet one of the dogs. This tour involves moderate walking with uneven walkways. |
