Today we are joined by local, professional step-on guide and former professor of urban studies, Bill “Hoffy” Hoffman.  Our clients love Hoffy’s fun personality and are always impressed with his vast knowledge – he once helped to designate L.A.’s first residential historic district! His passion is showcasing the fascinating features of towns and cities that would normally go overlooked, explaining how historic districts have preserved their century-old charm! This new tour explores the small-town charm and world-class art and architecture in the City of Orange. Repeatedly voted Orange County’s favorite “downtown,” the streets of Old Towne Orange are lined with antique and collectibles dealers, specialty shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Old Towne Orange contains the largest National Register Historic District in California and its distinct look makes it a popular location for film and television production. We’ll use listening devices so we can better hear Hoffy as we explore this beautiful and historic district and experience its well-preserved, century-old charm on a 60-minute guided walking tour around Plaza Park (better known as the “Orange Circle”). We’ll see the many architectural styles that date back over 100 years and experience, in-depth, this gathering place for Orange residents and visitors for more than a century. We'll drive through a lovely Craftsman and Victorian neighborhood and learn the ins and outs of the preservation process. A highlight will be a visit to the recently opened Hilbert Museum of California Art. You'll love the beautiful and evocative paintings of 20th century California, partly because you'll be familiar with many of the locations! On display for a limited time, Los Angeles Area Scene Paintings, is an exhibition that features more than 70 paintings created between the early 1900s and the present day focusing on vibrant paintings of everyday life in 20th century Los Angeles. Enjoy time at leisure for lunch on your own at one of the many restaurants in Plaza Park, each offering outdoor dining. We top off a memorable day with an included ice cream treat from Watson’s Drugs and Soda Fountain. Known as “California’s Original Soda Fountain,” this premier drug store and soda fountain shop has been an Old Town Orange landmark since 1899. This tour involves extensive walking at a slow pace.
To ensure a healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our guests, this tour will have a number of additional health and safety measures in place and require each guest complete a Wellness Pledge/Release of Liability Agreement.
