There’s nothing quite like celebrating the holidays in Solvang, coined one of the most “Christmassy Small Towns in America.” This charming town known as “Little Denmark,” is tucked into the picturesque Santa Ynez Valley and is like a page from Hans Christian Andersen – complete with all the sights, sounds and delicious aromas of a true Danish village. As part of its month-long Julefest (Yule-fest) Christmas celebration, today Solvang hosts the annual Julefest Parade. This small-town parade features horses, bands and members of local groups walking, marching and riding along the village streets. Enjoy approximately 4 hours at leisure with lunch on your own at a variety of restaurants in this very walkable village. Delight in the old-world architecture, windmills, gaslights and cobblestone walks, all beautifully decorated for Christmas. The shopping here is endless – more than 100 one-of-a-kind shops including high-end boutiques, European imports, art galleries and bakeries selling fresh-made Danish Aebleskivers, shortbread cookies and kringles! The museums here (subject to additional entrance fees) include Old Mission Santa Ines, the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, the Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum and Elverhoj Museum of History & Art focused on the history of Solvang and the heritage of Denmark. |
