Escape for the day to the San Diego Safari Park, the expansive, 1,800-acre wildlife sanctuary in San Diego’s scenic San Pasqual Valley. Formerly known as the San Diego Wild Animal Park, this preserve is home to more than 3,500 animals representing 429 species. The Park features many wonderful and diverse animal exhibits, petting areas, animal shows and animal encounters. A highlight of your day will be the narrated driving tour aboard the Africa Tram to journey into the “wilds of Africa” and observe large animals roaming freely in their natural environment. The newest area of the park is Walkabout Australia – a backcountry area shaded by eucalyptus trees where you can walk among kangaroos, wallabies and cassowaries. This is where you can see the rare and unique platypus – the only place outside Australia where you can see one! Included during our visit is a timed entrance ticket for Butterfly Jungle Safari, the Park’s annual springtime celebration featuring a walk through a rain forest greenhouse filled with thousands of butterflies of all colors and sizes. There’s a special thrill in being surrounded by these fluttering beauties, and guests wearing bright colors may find the winged wonders perching on them! Enjoy approximately 5 hours at leisure with lunch on your own at the park’s various eateries. This tour involves extensive walking. |
