Get away and spend a Sunday in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park, a garden and museum lover’s haven! You’ll have approximately five hours at leisure to explore this special place where you can experience natural beauty, wonderful art, culture, and stunning Spanish Revival architecture. The free Sunday afternoon organ concert at the Spreckles Organ Pavilion is always a treat! Relax in the shade of a century-old tree or on a bench watching butterflies in one of Balboa Park’s lush, uniquely landscaped gardens. From the sweet-smelling roses in the rose garden to the prickly cacti with beautiful blooms in the cactus garden, to brightly colored water lilies in the lily pond and outstanding orchids in the Botanical Building, the gardens here are endless and free (except for the Japanese Friendship Garden which does charge an admission on-site). The museums here are as diverse as the gardens and include the San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Natural History Museum, San Diego Air & Space Museum, San Diego Automotive Museum, San Diego Model Railroad Museum, San Diego History Center, Museum of Us, Museum of Photographic Arts and the Fleet Science Center (all museums have separate admission fees payable on-site). Enjoy lunch on your own at one of the Balboa Park eateries or bring a sack lunch. |
