Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Tuesday, 5/24/2022 - Santa Ynez Valley, Cambria
From our departure points we set out this morning for the tranquility of California’s Central Coast. We’ll travel by deluxe motorcoach into the Santa Ynez Valley, a secluded region of rolling hills dotted with horse ranches, vineyards, olive trees, Scrub oak, and early California-style architecture. We’ll visit Los Olivos, the charming and historic town tucked into this picturesque valley. Enjoy an included gourmet boxed lunch followed by time at leisure to explore this very walkable two-block village known for its love of the arts, unique boutiques and wine and olive oil tasting opportunities. We continue north along the coast to the quaint seaside village of Cambria – the artists’ colony nestled in a forest of towering Monterey Pines along a craggy stretch of California coastline. We’ll spend the next three nights at a charming inn that features boutique rooms with cozy fireplaces and a heated pool and spa. The inn features an oceanfront setting on Cambria’s Moonstone Beach, a spectacular stretch of rugged coastline which offers an extraordinary array of tide pools, walkable bluff-top boardwalk and a spectacular vantage point for memorable sunsets. This evening we’ll enjoy an included dinner with choice of entrée at Linn’s Restaurant, the Cambria icon and locals’ favorite that’s known for its contemporary comfort food classics like chicken pot pie. But be sure to save room for what they’re most famous for – warm olallieberry pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!

Day 2
Wednesday, 5/25/2022 - Cambria, Hearst Castle
Following an included breakfast we’ll visit Hearst Castle, the National Historic Landmark that sits above the clouds on top of “The Enchanted Hill.” This extraordinary temple to opulence and excess is reopening to visitors for the first time in more than two years! During that time the staff has spent considerable time improving this eye-popping extravaganza featuring a 165-room castle, terraced gardens, pools and a spectacular wraparound view of California’s Central Coast. Our visit here begins in the Heart Castle Theatre with Hearst Castle – Building the Dream, a film that features breathtaking original cinematography combined with vintage clips and stills from the 1920s and 30s allowing the construction and history of the Castle to come to life on a giant five-story screen. Experience what life was like as a guest of W. R. Hearst, see his personal collection of rare and ancient works of art and encounter the majesty and beauty of this historical treasure first-hand while on a docent-guided “Grand Rooms” tour through the main building including the Assembly Room, Refectory, Morning Room, Billiard Room and Theater (note the Grand Rooms tour includes approximately 159 steps, both up and down, and 2/3-mile walk). After time at leisure for browsing and lunch on your own in Cambria’s West Village, this afternoon we’ll visit Harmony, the bite-sized town that’s big on flavor! Legendary for its population of 18, this charming one-block town is a perennial fixture along California’s Central Coast. After enjoying some “udderly awesome,” small-batch craft ice cream from the Harmony Valley Creamery, we’ll enjoy time at leisure to explore the galleries and Harmony’s famous chapel. Enjoy dinner on your own this evening at a variety of restaurants in Cambria’s charming East Village.
Breakfast
Day 3
Thursday, 5/26/2022 - Cambria, San Luis Obispo
After an included breakfast, we’ll visit a unique ranch – in fact, this Clydesdale horse ranch is the only place on earth where you can visit majestic Clydesdale horses grazing on nearly 2,000 acres of rolling pastures speckled with pristine Monterey Pines and overlooking an exquisite view of the Pacific Ocean! This family has been breeding Clydesdales here for over 30 years, while showing them all across the U.S. and Canada, and now they’re sharing their Clydesdales and their passion for them with us. We’ll board an open-air trailer for a driving tour through the ranch learning about the history of the ranch and taking in the incredible views. We’ll enjoy an included lunch in a picturesque setting and an opportunity to meet the horses – truly sweet and gentle giants. This afternoon enjoy time at leisure relaxing at the inn, taking a walk on the Moonstone Beach boardwalks or browsing the charming shops, boutiques and galleries in Cambria’s quaint and historic East Village. The galleries offer an eclectic selection of everything from art glass to watercolor paintings, nature photography to abstracts created by both well-known and local artists. This evening, enjoy dinner on your own at one of the oceanfront restaurants near the inn, or take advantage of transportation to downtown San Luis Obispo’s Farmers’ Market (weather permitting) to stroll amongst four lively, historic blocks filled with just-picked produce for sale, local restaurants selling barbecued specialties and local performers.

Day 4
Friday, 5/27/2022 - Santa Ynez Valley, Journey Home
Following an included breakfast, we’ll travel south along the coast and through the Santa Ynez Valley to the historic Cold Spring Tavern, sitting atop the San Marcos pass just off historic Stagecoach Road. The oldest continuously running tavern in California, what is now the Cold Spring Tavern, began operating in 1868 as a stagecoach stop called “Cold Spring Relay Station.” The tavern maintains its historic look, and as you explore the grounds, you can’t help feeling like you’re stepping back to the late 1800s. We’ll enjoy an included lunch with choice of entrée (hint: the tri tip sandwich is their specialty) at this California landmark. We continue south this afternoon arriving at our drop-off points this evening with many fond memories of our time exploring icons and landmarks along California’s beautiful Central Coast.
