Day 2
Monday, 6/6/2022 - Nantucket
Following an included breakfast we’ll be joined by our local guide and board a ferry for Nantucket – the “faraway island.” The island still looks much as it did during its heyday as a prosperous whaling and shipping port of the 1800s, with cedar shingled homes, elegant whaling mansions and cobblestone streets. We’ll enjoy a driving tour of this breathtaking island that features rolling farmland, quiet villages, an historic lighthouse and pounding surf. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure for lunch and browsing in the upscale boutiques and art galleries in the downtown area which is the largest National Historic Landmark District in the country, featuring over 800 original buildings built prior to 1800. The National Park Service cites Nantucket as being the “finest surviving architectural and environmental example of a late 18th and early 19th century New England seaport town.” We return to Hyannis this evening with an included dinner at a locals’ favorite.
Day 3

In Oak Bluffs we’ll stroll through “Cottage City” and admire the brightly painted “gingerbread” cottages with decorative trim. Kennedy Memorial and Korean War Memorial prior to an included dinner at a locals’ favorite.

This historic and charming waterfront district with cobblestone streets is filled with antique stores, art galleries, specialty shops and restaurants. This afternoon we’ll tour the Vanderbilt’s famous Breakers Mansion – an 11 acre estate on Ochre Point, built for the grandson of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt. Considered the grandest of Newport’s summer cottages and a symbol of the Vanderbilt’s social and financial preeminence in turn-of-the-century America, the mansion features 70 rooms, a 2 1⁄2 story central Great Hall, and has rare marble, alabaster and gilded wood throughout.
