Wednesday, 4/21/2021 - Coastal Train Ride
We set out from our departure points this morning for the tranquility of California’s Central Coast. We’ll travel by deluxe motorcoach to downtown Los Angeles’ Union Station to board Amtrak’s Coast Starlight for a memorable five-hour rail journey along California’s spectacular coastline and through its fertile valleys to San Luis Obispo. We’ll travel along Point Conception and through Vandenberg Air Force Base where you’ll see the launch complexes and beautiful undeveloped coastline only visible by train. An included boxed lunch may be enjoyed onboard the train. Upon arrival in San Luis Obispo, our motorcoach will be waiting to take us the short distance to the quaint, Apple Farm Inn – our accommodations for the next two nights. Nestled by San Luis Obispo Creek and surrounded by rolling hills, the Apple Farm Inn is a “country rustic” 4-diamond, Victorian-style inn situated among a lush, quiet garden setting. The inn blends the country charm of yesteryear with all of the modern comforts of today including a seating nook and fireplace in every comfy cozy room and a heated pool year round. Enjoy time to explore the grounds which feature strolling pathways through lush gardens, a working waterwheel attached to an authentic mill house and apple trees with apples to pick! Enjoy a complimentary wine reception at the Inn prior to an included dinner at a locals’ favorite this evening. This innovative restaurant features global cuisine with an emphasis on fresh, local flavors from the Central Coast.

Thursday, 4/22/2021 - Central Coast Edible Sightseeing
Following an included breakfast , we’ll travel to the quaint seaside town of Cayucos to begin our edible sightseeing at a small cookie factory. The scent of brown butter embraces your senses as you witness the cookie makers meticulously hand-rolling each cookie. One taste of this delicious sweet and salty treat and you’ll come to understand how this humble cookie factory in a small beach town has made a name for itself nationwide. We continue north to the heart of the Central Coast wine region. The region surrounding Paso Robles is home to the oldest grapes in the state, planted by Franciscan monks as they made their way north on El Camino Real (now Highway 101) in the late 1700s. With over 200 wineries, this wine region has certainly arrived and is producing world-class wines – especially Rhône varietals and blends. At an award-winning winery we’ll enjoy an included lunch with guided wine tasting. We return to the Apple Farm Inn this afternoon with time to relax and enjoy a complimentary wine reception. This evening, enjoy dinner on your own at a variety of restaurants in downtown San Luis Obispo.
