From Door County’s historic lighthouses and Norwegian-style chapels and Green Bay’s legendary Lambeau Field, to the visionary architecture at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin and along the Frank Lloyd Wright Trail in Madison and Racine and the remarkable collections at The House on the Rock, this new 7-day tour features the many spectacular wonders of Wisconsin at a delightful time of year!

Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Thursday, 9/7/2023 - Welcome to Wisconsin! 
Optional transfers from our departure points will have us at LAX this morning for a scheduled, non-stop flight arriving at Chicago O’Hare late this afternoon. Those guests making their own flight arrangements can request the group’s flight schedule to coordinate a flight arrival time that would allow them to be included on the complimentary transfer to the hotel. We’ll board our deluxe motorcoach and travel to north to Sheboygan, Wisconsin, known as “The Malibu of the Midwest” due to it’s large waves that are popular for lake-surfing. Enjoy an included dinner at a locals’ favorite.

Friday, 9/8/2023 - Door County
After an included breakfast, we’ll travel north to Door County, known as the “Cape Cod of the Midwest.” We’ll join a local guide for extensive sightseeing of this picturesque peninsula that juts out into the waters of Lake Michigan and features charming small towns, 300 scenic miles of coastline and exquisite natural beauty. Visit Cave Point, home to picturesque limestone sea caves, the result of Lake Michigan’s relentless pounding against the limestone bluffs. In Björklunden we’ll tour Boynton Chapel, a wooden chapel built in a late 12th century Norwegian stave church (Stavkirke) style that contains 41 hand-painted frescoes and exceptionally fine hand-carved wood furnishings. This afternoon we’ll enjoy a narrated West Islands & Eagle Bluff Lighthouse Cruise to admire Door County from the waters of Lake Michigan. We’ll cruise along Peninsula State Park’s 7 miles of shoreline, a landscape that features rocky bluffs descending more than 150 feet down to Lake Michigan’s shoreline. We’ll enjoy a two-night stay at a charming and rustic resort situated on 100 secluded acres of pristine and undeveloped Rowleys Bay. This evening, enjoy an included fish boil dinner, a tradition that was brought here by early Scandinavian settlers from their homelands.

Day 3
Saturday, 9/9/2023 - Washington Island, Door County
Following an included breakfast, we’ll join a local guide and travel by ferry 5 miles across Death’s Door passage to Washington Island, the largest of Door County’s thirty islands and one of the most beautiful and pristine islands in the United States! A driving tour will showcase this picturesque island that is home to pristine rocky beaches, lush forests and where 700 year-round residents are all on “island time.” We’ll visit Schoolhouse Beach, a geological marvel that features polished white limestone rocks and crystal clear blue water. Visit the Jackson Harbor Maritime Museum featuring artifacts from the area’s commercial fishing past and local maritime history. After an included lunch, we’ll step back in time to medieval Norway at the Washington Island Stavkirke – a wooden chapel built to resemble one near Borgund, Norway. Visit the Washington Island Farm Museum featuring a collection of restored log buildings, horse-drawn farm equipment, old time tools, farm animals and a blacksmith shop to take you back to early pioneer days. At a lavender farm we’ll learn about the 14 different varieties of lavender grown and the many uses and benefits of the unique herb. We’ll return to the mainland by ferry and enjoy an included dinner this evening.

Day 4
Sunday, 9/10/2023 - Green Bay, Madison
After an included breakfast, we’ll travel south to Green Bay and tour the legendary Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers and their fans, the Cheeseheads! Learn about this historic football stadium while visiting a premium seating area, and walking through the players tunnel to the field. We continue west to Madison and enjoy a narrated dinner cruise on Lake Mendota

Monday, 9/11/2023 - The House on the Rock, Madison
Following an included breakfast, we’ll travel to Spring Green, Wisconsin and tour The House on the Rock, Alex Jordan’s visionary architectural wonder built atop a 60-foot chimney of rock that defies description. Marvel at the world’s largest carousel, see a 200-foot long sculpted sea monster, a Titanic display, a mechanical calliope, a million piece miniature circus, suits of armor, ivory carvings, automated music machines and much more! Stroll through the Japanese Garden and the Infinity Room extending an astonishing 218 feet out over the scenic valley below. This afternoon we’ll begin our exploration of the Frank Lloyd Wright Trail, established in 2017 to honor America’s most famous architect, in his home state of Wisconsin. We’ll join a local guide for a Madison city tour with an emphasis on Wright-designed buildings including a tour of the Unitarian Meeting House – the National Historic Landmark recognized internationally as an icon of religious architecture.

Tuesday, 9/12/2023 - Taliesin, Madison
Following an included breakfast, we’ll visit Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin Preservation, a National Historic Landmark and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Taliesin is Frank Lloyd Wright’s 37,000-square-foot home, studio, school, and 800-acre estate that includes buildings from nearly every decade of Wright’s career. Constructed of natural materials and designed to be a part of the surrounding landscape, Taliesin has been described as “where nature and architecture converge.” Experience a two-hour, docent-guided tour as well as a ride through the grounds past Midway Barn, Taliesin’s former farming complex. Enjoy an included lunch on-site as well as time to explore the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center. This afternoon we’ll return to Madison for a docent-guided tour of Monona Terrace, the community and convention center that Frank Lloyd Wright designed for his hometown. We return to the hotel with dinner on your own this evening.

Wednesday, 9/13/2023 - Racine, Journey Home
After an included breakfast, we’ll travel to Racine, Wisconsin and tour the SC Johnson corporate headquarters, the only remaining Frank Lloyd Wright-designed corporate headquarters still in use. Since 1939, the SC Johnson buildings have been a destination for those who appreciate great design and want to see where such products as Glade®, Raid®, Windex® and Ziploc® were designed. After a docent-guided tour here, we’ll continue to downtown Racine with time at leisure for lunch on your own. This afternoon we’ll continue south to Chicago O’Hare for a scheduled nonstop flight returning to Los Angeles this evening. Those guests making their own flight arrangements can request the group’s flight schedule to coordinate a flight departure time that would allow them to be included on the complimentary transfer to the airport. Back in Los Angeles those guests with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective drop-offs.  

While we make every effort to operate our tours as outlined in the itinerary, we ask for your patience, understanding and flexibility and to retain a sense of adventure while traveling with us. Situations may arise that necessitate changes to the itinerary. Should we need to adjust the itinerary either prior to or while on tour, these changes will be communicated to you and only done when absolutely necessary.
