Our nation’s history comes alive through its most iconic sites and monuments and in-depth commentary provided by local guides. From the monuments along the National Mall, Arlington National Cemetery and the U.S. Capitol to the Washington National Cathedral, Ford’s Theatre, Mt. Vernon, the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian, this is a comprehensive exploration of our nation’s capital at the most delightful time of year.

Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Thursday, 3/31/2022 - Arrive in Virginia
Optional transfers from home or one of our departure points will have us at LAX for our scheduled non-stop flight to Washington-Dulles International Airport. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should arrive at the Washington-Dulles International Airport by 430 p.m. if they want to be included on the complimentary transfer from the airport to the hotel. Upon arrival, we’ll board a deluxe motorcoach and enjoy an included dinner with choice of entrée at a locals’ favorite. This evening we’ll begin a five-night, single-hotel stay at a deluxe hotel conveniently located in Arlington, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.

Day 2
Friday, 4/1/2022 - Washington D.C.
Following an included breakfast, we’ll be joined by a local guide for a full day of sightseeing in our nation’s capital (note that extensive walking is required at some sites and entrance to any site is subject to availability and security). On Capitol Hill we’ll explore the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center and take a docent-guided tour of the United States Capitol. We continue to the Library of Congress’ Thomas Jefferson Building with perhaps the most striking interior of any building in Washington. Back onboard the motorcoach we’ll drive up Embassy Row and see the large mansions that now house international embassies but were originally built by the socially elite after the Civil War. A docent-guided tour of the Washington National Cathedral will showcase this 14th century-style Gothic wonder. The sixth largest church in the world, it stands taller than the Washington Monument on 57 acres overlooking Washington, D.C. At the National Archives we’ll see our nation’s most precious documents including the original Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights. Visit the Thomas Jefferson Memorial to admire the 19-foot statue and the stunning view of Washington, D.C. across the Tidal Basin. Following an included dinner at a locals’ favorite, we’ll take a guided walk through the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. We continue to the World War II Memorial, one of newest memorials on the National Mall.

Day 3
Saturday, 4/2/2022 - Arlington & Alexandria, Virginia
Following an included breakfast, we’ll visit Arlington National Cemetery, America’s shrine to valor and sacrifice. On a narrated tram tour we’ll make stops to pay our respects at the final resting place of President John F. Kennedy and see the changing of the guards at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We continue past the Air Force Memorial enroute to Alexandria, Virginia where we’ll enjoy time at leisure for lunch and browsing in Old Town Alexandria. This afternoon we’ll visit Christ Church, the English country-style church built where both George Washington and Robert E. Lee prayed. We’ll be joined by a local guide for a tour of Old Town Alexandria – once a thriving seaport for the young American nation, today it is a charming historic city with a small-town feel. This evening, we’ll view the stunning U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima).

Sunday, 4/3/2022 - Washington, D.C.
After an included breakfast, we’ll be joined by a local guide and drive past the Pentagon enroute to Ford’s Theatre, restored as it was the night John Wilkes Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln. We continue to the National Mall and admire the new Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Korean War Veterans Memorial – all very different in their design yet strikingly similar in their ability to emotionally move you. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure to visit the Smithsonian museums of your choice (with no admission required). At the National Air & Space Museum, see the plane flown by the Wright brothers and the Apollo 11 command module. See the Hope Diamond at the National Museum of Natural History. See the actual flag that inspired the Star-Spangled Banner at the National Museum of American History. Other museums within walking distance (some requiring a fee) include the National Portrait Gallery, U.S. Botanic Garden, National Gallery of Art, National Museum of the American Indian, National Museum of African Art, Newseum, International Spy Museum, Museum of the Bible, the Holocaust Museum and more. This evening we pass the Watergate Building enroute to an included dinner at a locals’ favorite.

Day 5
Monday, 4/4/2022 - Mount Vernon
Following an included breakfast, we’ll walk through Lafayette Square to the north side of the White House for the best view of “The People’s House” at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. We continue to the Tidal Basin to admire the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. This time of year the 3,000 cherry trees along the Tidal Basin are most likely in bloom. We continue to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing for a behind-the-scenes tour to see millions of dollars being printed as you walk along the gallery overlooking the production floor. This afternoon we follow the Potomac River to George Washington’s Mount Vernon which sits on a grassy, shaded slope overlooking the Potomac River. Enjoy time to tour Washington’s mansion, intriguing museum galleries and 50 acres of gardens and grounds which include the tombs of George and Martha Washington. Enjoy an included dinner at a locals’ favorite.

Day 6
Tuesday, 4/5/2022 - Washington, D.C., Journey Home
After an included breakfast, we’ll return to the National Mall and visit the National Museum of African American History & Culture. The newest museum of the Smithsonian, this architectural masterpiece showcases powerful moments in African American history, culture, and community. We continue to the Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, the companion facility to the National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall. This expansive museum contains 335 airplanes and spacecraft including the Space Shuttle Discovery, an SR-71 Blackbird, the B-17 Flying Fortress, an F-4 Phantom fighter and the actual B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay. Early this evening we arrive at the Washington-Dulles International Airport for our scheduled non-stop flight to Los Angeles. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should depart the Dulles Airport no earlier than 4:30 p.m. if they want to be included on the complimentary transfer to the airport. Back in Los Angeles, those with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective destinations.
