Day 1
Thursday, 3/31/2022 - Welcome to Washington, D.C.!
Optional transfers from one of our departure points will have us at LAX for our scheduled non-stop flight to Reagan National Airport. Those guests not taking advantage of the optional group air, should arrive at Reagan National Airport by 4:00 p.m. if they want to be included on the complimentary transfer from the airport. Upon arrival, we’ll board a deluxe motorcoach and enjoy an included dinner at a locals’ favorite. This evening we’ll begin a five-night, single-hotel stay at a deluxe hotel in Arlington, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.

Day 2
Friday, 4/1/2022 - Arlington, Washington, D.C.
After an included breakfast, we’ll be joined by a local guide for a full day of sightseeing in our nation’s capital. We’ll visit Arlington National Cemetery, America’s shrine to valor and sacrifice. On a narrated tram tour we’ll stop to pay our respects at President John F. Kennedy’s Gravesite and see the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. At the National Archives we’ll see our nation’s most precious documents including an original Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights. On the National Mall we’ll admire the new Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial followed by a visit to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial to admire the 19-foot statue and the stunning view of Washington, D.C. We continue to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. We’ll pay our respects at the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial – all very different in their design yet strikingly similar in their ability to emotionally move you. Following an included dinner at a locals’ favorite, we’ll take a guided walk through the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and continue on an Illuminated Monument Tour including a visit to the World War II Memorial, featuring 56 pillars surrounding a central fountain.

Day 3
Saturday, 4/2/2022 - Washington, D.C., Alexandria
Following an included breakfast, we’ll be joined by a local guide and drive past the Pentagon enroute to Lafayette Square where we’ll get the best view of the White House. We continue to Pershing Park and the new World War I Memorial. At the White House Visitor Center we’ll get a glimpse into the “The People’s House” through exhibits that feature almost 100 historical artifacts. We continue to the architecturally stunning Union Station followed by a visit to Capitol Hill to see the U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court and Library of Congress. In Alexandria, Virginia we’ll visit Christ Church, the English country-style church where both George Washington and Robert E. Lee prayed. We’ll be joined by a local guide for a tour of Old Town Alexandria – once a thriving seaport for the young American nation, today it is a charming historic city with a small-town feel. Enjoy time at leisure for browsing and dinner on your own in Old Town Alexandria.

Sunday, 4/3/2022 - Washington, D.C.
After an included breakfast we’ll visit the National Museum of African American History & Culture. The newest museum of the Smithsonian, this architectural masterpiece showcases powerful moments in African American history, culture, and community. Visit Ford’s Theatre which appears as it did the night of April 14, 1865 when President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. In the Ford’s Theatre Museum you can explore exhibits related to Lincoln’s presidency, Civil War milestones and see historical artifacts including the Deringer pistol used by John Wilkes Booth. Enjoy time at leisure this afternoon visiting the Smithsonian museums of your choice (with no admission required). See the Hope Diamond at the National Museum of Natural History. See the actual flag that inspired the Star-Spangled Banner at the National Museum of American History. Other Smithsonian Museums within walking distance include the National Museum of the American Indian, National Museum of African Art, the Smithsonian Castle, the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, and more. Enjoy an included dinner at a locals’ favorite this evening.

Day 5
Monday, 4/4/2022 - Washington, D.C., Mount Vernon
Following an included breakfast we’ll visit the stunning U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima). We continue along Embassy Row to see the large mansions that were originally built by the socially elite after the Civil War but now house international embassies. We’ll visit the Washington National Cathedral showcasing 14th century-style Gothic architecture. The sixth largest church in the world, it stands taller than the Washington Monument on 57 acres overlooking Washington, D.C. We continue past the Watergate Building to Georgetown for a guided walking tour to see Georgetown’s shady lanes and cobblestone streets that reflect another side of the capital city. We continue past the spectacular Air Force Memorial to George Washington’s Mount Vernon which sits on a grassy, shaded slope overlooking the Potomac River. Walk through Washington’s mansion and explore intriguing galleries, along with 50 acres of gardens and grounds which include the tombs of George and Martha Washington. Enjoy an included dinner at a locals’ favorite.

Day 6
Tuesday, 4/5/2022 - Journey Home
Following additional time to explore the Smithsonian Museums along the National Mall, we’ll continue to the Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, the companion facility to the National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall. This expansive museum contains 335 airplanes and spacecraft including the Space Shuttle Discovery, an SR-71 Blackbird, the B-17 Flying Fortress, an F-4 Phantom fighter and the actual B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay. This afternoon we’ll arrive at Washington-Dulles International Airport for our scheduled non-stop flight to Los Angeles. Those guests not taking advantage of the optional group airfare, should arrange a departure flight from Washington-Dulles International Airport no earlier than 5:30 p.m.. Back in Los Angeles, those with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective destinations.

While we make every effort to operate our tours as outlined in the itinerary, we ask for your patience, understanding and flexibility and to retain a sense of adventure while traveling with us. Situations may arise that necessitate changes to the itinerary.
