Today we are joined by professional step-on guide, Curt, who is a history buff with an expertise on the evolution of Los Angeles, and is especially loved for his charismatic personality and fun stories. Re-live the golden era of the 1920s in Los Angeles – an exciting time of grand hotels, jazz music, speakeasies, high fashion, fame and fortune! Learn how the city went through an incredible decade-long cultural and building renaissance converting it from a fairly ordinary city with good weather to becoming the fifth largest city in the U.S. and known as “The Emerald City.”

Get a glimpse into the history and panache of this era with visits to a number of memorable and iconic sites in downtown L.A. In Echo park, we’ll learn the unbelievable story of one of the most famous and influential people of the 1920s while touring the Foursquare Heritage Center featuring the restored home of the evangelist, Aimee Semple McPherson. The parsonage home features original furniture, photographs, props and personal artifacts which capture an extraordinary period of American history and culture and shine a light on the impact of Sister McPherson.

Also visit the historic Angelus Temple, the colossal house of worship crowned with a silver-painted dome and opened in 1923 under McPherson’s leadership. Tour the interior of the Los Angeles Central Library – the last work of major American architect Bertram Goodhue. When it opened in 1926, the building's expanses of unadorned concrete and skyscraper-like profile heralded Modern architecture. At the same time, it alluded to ancient Egyptian, Roman, Byzantine, and various Islamic civilizations, as well as to Spanish Colonial and other revival styles.

A guided walking tour inside the luxurious Biltmore Hotel which opened in 1923 and has seen more than its fair share of scandal and celebrities as it once played host to a Prohibition-era nightclub and the Academy Awards! In the Biltmore Hotel restaurant, we’ll enjoy an included lunch. We continue with a driving tour through downtown’s historic bank district that in the 1920s was considered the “Wall Street of the West.” Finally, we’ll visit L.A.’s iconic City Hall and take in the breathtaking views from the observation deck on the 27th floor; completed in 1928, it played host to the notorious courtroom trials of the 1920s.
