With Step-On Guide "Hoffy"

Departing: Tuesday, September 25, 2018
Limited Space

1 Day Package

Price: $69 Per Person

Today we are joined by local professional step-on guide and former professor of urban studies, Bill “Hoffy” Hoffman. Our clients love Hoffy’s fun personality and are always impressed with his vast knowledge – he once helped to designate L.A.’s first residential historic district. His passion is showing others the fascinating features of towns and cities that they would otherwise not notice. This wonderful tour explores the small-town charm and world-class art and architecture of one of Hoffy’s favorite towns, Claremont. He will show you why he thinks this college town is truly one of the prettiest and most friendly in Southern California. Originally founded by the Santa Fe Railroad, the town benefitted from the decision by Pomona College (1880) to locate near its eastern border. The growth of its remaining four colleges and a booming citrus industry gave Claremont an economic stimulus. The great thing is that the city never let its growth compromise its character.

At Scripps College – rated the 4th most beautiful campus in the U.S. – we will view its gardens and incomparable murals. Also, a visit to the unique Folk Music Center, which boasts an incredible assortment of the most amazing instruments you could ever find, including rare and antique musical artifacts. Enjoy lunch on your own at the Claremont Packing House, a historic building in the heart of the charming Claremont Village that boasts artisan shops and restaurants. Tucked away in Chino Hills is a hidden gem, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, a Hindu temple of worship. On a self-guided tour, you will take in the magnificent architecture and the stunning intricately detailed exterior, handcarved with pinkstone. You won’t see any steel or metal in sight as everything from the archways to the pillars, and every single piece of the Mandir is hand-carved out of pinkstone and Italian marble. We top off the day with a visit to the Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Gardens this afternoon. Note: no tank tops, shorts or short skirts. Suggested: walking shoes and socks as you will be asked to remove your footwear upon entering the Hindu temple.
