Nostalgia & Nibbles

Departing: Thursday, April 19, 2018

1 Day Package
New Itinerary

Price: $69 Per Person

Take a journey with us down memory lane along the “Mother Road,” Route 66, to sites we’ve never taken you before! As we travel along Route 66, see landmarks, historical buildings and ‘mom and pop’ shops that contributed in making Route 66 the “Main Street of America.” Today we head east to also explore some of the ‘nostalgic nibbles’ that were made famous along this Route. In San Bernardino, we will visit the original site of McDonald’s (once owned by the McDonald brothers), which opened in 1948. Recently dramatized in the movie, “The Founder,” this was the site where Ray Kroc tried to sell Dick Mac McDonald a MixMaster in 1954 and ended up buying their name. Now a Juan Pollo restaurant, the owner turned part of the building into a McDonald’s Museum that hosts a collection of pre-Ray Kroc McDonald’s items, dating back to the 1940s. In historic Old Town Victorville, enjoy a docent-guided tour of the California Route 66 Museum, which is devoted to the westernmost portion of the historic highway and complete with signs and memorabilia from different periods of the road’s history. This fun and interactive museum is full of nostalgia, complete with a 1950s style diner booth, a VW Love Bus, a 1917 Model T Ford and much more!  Enjoy lunch on your own at the new Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Restaurant, scheduled to open in early 2018!  This highway-iconic chain’s Victorville location will be the first to debut in the Golden State (if any construction delays cause the restaurant not to open as expected by our tour date, lunch will be on own at an alternate location). Enjoy an included sweet treat at Logan’s Candies, where their family has been making signature candy canes and chocolates by hand for almost 80 years. And a final treat awaits at an authentic old-fashioned ice parlor! Suggested: walking shoes.
Depart: FV 8:00 a.m., SBL 8:20, VS 8:45. Return: 7:00 p.m.
