The Huntington Library & Gardens (SBC) Day Tour Calendar
With Becoming America Exhibit

Departing: Saturday, April 7, 2018
Limited Space

1 Day Package

Price: $79 Per Person

Our annual pilgrimage to The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens at a spectacular time of year – when the gardens are generally in full bloom. The Huntington’s botanical gardens feature over 15,000 kinds of plants from around the world, many landscaped into a series of themed gardens including the Rose Garden, Japanese Garden and Chinese Garden. The Huntington’s art collection is one of the most comprehensive collections in the U.S. of British and French art of the 18th and 19th centuries and includes the Gainsborough’s “The Blue Boy” and Mary Cassatt’s “Breakfast in Bed.” While much of the collection is on display in the original Huntington residence, a beautiful new addition to the galleries is the Fielding Wing – a $10.3 million building that made its debut this past October. The inaugural exhibition titled, Becoming America, showcases more than 200 works from the Fieldings’ collection of 18th and early 19th century American art works, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, ceramics, needlework, and other related decorative arts. In its rich diversity, the Fielding Collection offers a rare opportunity to explore early American history through objects made for daily use and through images of the people who used them. The Huntington Library displays a magnificent collection of rare books and manuscripts including a Gutenberg Bible, an illuminated manuscript of Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, and a First Folio edition of Shakespeare. Enjoy ample time at your leisure to explore the gardens, art galleries and their wonderful new gift shop and visitor center. Enjoy lunch on your own at the The Huntington Garden Cafe. Suggested: walking shoes, hat and sunglasses.
