Day 2
Saturday, 11/25/2017 - San Antonio
This morning following an included breakfast, we relive history as we take in the IMAX film AlamoThe Price of Freedom. The famous and heroic story of the Alamo will play out on a screen 6-stories high. Next we join a local guide for a tour of San Antonio and begin at perhaps the most famous and historic site in our nation, the Alamo. It was here that Mexican General Santa Anna’s army defeated  David Crockett, Jim Bowie and 187 others on March 6, 1836. Enjoy time to browse the museum, which displays items from the Republic of Texas and retells the story of the Alamo’s fall. Following a visit to the historic Menger Hotel, we continue to the Buckhorn Saloon & Museum and Texas Ranger Museum, featuring 520 species of extraordinary wildlife from all over the world including the famous ‘78 Point Buck’.  This afternoon we arrive at Mission San Jose. Known as the “Queen of the Missions,” this is the largest of the Texas missions and has been restored to show how it might have looked over 250 years ago. We return to the hotel for the nightly cocktail reception and then enjoy the evening at leisure to explore this magnificent city. Our hotel’s location in the heart of the San Antonio River Walk provides plenty of options for evening activities and dining opportunities. Lush green foliage lines the banks of this peaceful jade-green, historic river. Cobblestone walkways lead visitors to the river-level shops and restaurants. Shadowed by towering cypress, oak, and willows, and bordered by gardens of ornamental plants, this is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of city streets. Add to this scene hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights and caroling on the river, it will be a sight to behold this festive holiday season.
Day 3
Sunday, 11/26/2017 - Austin
Following an included breakfast, we’ll join our local guide and drive through the Texas Hill Country to Austin, the capital city of Texas.  Austin is a graceful river city of wooded hills, tall trees and historic architecture. Visit the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum.  This museum, which recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation, contains exhibits relating to Johnson’s presidency, campaign memorabilia, gifts from foreign heads of state, and a replica of the Oval Office during his presidency.  We continue to the Bullock Texas State History Museum, a dynamic educational institution that engages visitors in the exciting story of Texas. Enjoy an included lunch and 4D movie at the museum. We continue to the spectacular Renaissance Revival-style Texas State Capitol building. Enjoy a docent-guided tour of the interior of this building located on a green sanctuary in the heart of Austin. We return to San Antonio with the evening at your leisure.
Day 4
Monday, 11/27/2017 - Texas Hill Country
Following an included breakfast, our local guide joins us as we travel into the heart of Texas Hill Country. In Stonewall we’ll visit the LBJ National Park Visitor Center and LBJ’s boyhood home. We continue to the LBJ Ranch, known as the “Texas White House.” A visit here tells the story of our 36th President and provides a unique perspective into one of America’s most noteworthy citizens by providing the most complete picture of an American president. We continue to the well-preserved German settlement of Fredericksburg, where the heritage and culture of the original settlers lives on. Fredericksburg is a city of beauty and charm. Its founding includes a rich history of people making a good life in a new place. Enjoy time at leisure to explore Main Street and browse its unique shops and museums. We return to San Antonio for a cocktail cruise on a barge followed by a memorable farewell dinner on the River Walk.
