Travel the back roads with local guides in Vermont and New Hampshire past traditional white steeple churches, quaint villages, and covered bridges. Pass by old whaling villages dotted with lighthouses and widows’ walks as you travel along Maine’s rocky beaches. The events which led to the Revolutionary War unfold before your eyes in Boston, Lexington and Concord.  All the while the vibrant colors of the leaves provide a spectacular backdrop in every direction. This is fall foliage in New England.

Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Friday, 10/6/2017 - Arrive In Massachusetts
Our journey begins with optional transfers from home or our departure points this morning to LAX for a scheduled non-stop flight to Boston. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should arrive at the Boston Airport by 5 p.m. Our deluxe motorcoach will be waiting to transport us west along the old Boston Post Road.  Part of a system of mail-delivery routes that evolved into the first highways in the United States, the Post Road is listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its historical significance. In Sudbury, we’ll enjoy an included welcome dinner at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn.  The oldest Inn still operating in the United States, the Inn has been serving travelers along the Boston Post Road for almost 300 years. From its Colonial roots as an important stagecoach stop, to Henry Ford’s historic preservation of the property as a living museum, the Wayside Inn offers a unique experience of history. Later we arrive at our deluxe hotel in Framingham for an overnight.

Saturday, 10/7/2017 - Lexington and Concord
After an included breakfast at the hotel this morning, we travel the short distance to the historic town of Lexington, where the events which led to the Revolutionary War will unfold before your eyes. A local guide will provide a driving tour including historic Lexington Battle Green (formerly Lexington Common) and the Buckman Tavern where the Minutemen assembled and waited. We’ll follow the route of the famous “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” to Concord and visit Minute Man National Historical Park to walk across the “Old North Bridge” and see the famed Minute Man statue.  We’ll then drive past the homes of Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Ralph Waldo Emerson, as well as the cabin on Walden Pond belonging to Henry David Thoreau enroute to historic Concord for time at leisure. This afternoon we continue into Vermont and begin our journey through the vibrant colors of a New England autumn. Enjoy time to browse at the famous Vermont Country Store in Rockingham. The “Purveyors of the Practical and Hard-To-Find, Since 1946”, the Vermont Country Store is a great stop for items of yesteryear, and made-in-Vermont products! Late this afternoon we arrive at our premier mountain resort in Killington for a two-night stay. Enjoy an included dinner at a locals’ favorite this evening.

Day 3
Sunday, 10/8/2017 - Vermont
Following an included breakfast, we are joined by a local guide as we explore the Green Mountains of Vermont. This morning we visit the Vermont Marble Museum, home to the largest marble exhibit in the world. See a sculptor at work and learn about the unique people and places that make up Vermont’s marble industry. We continue to the Shelburne Museum which houses “the best collection of Americana in New England” – a collection of collections! Over 150,000 works are exhibited in a remarkable setting of 39 buildings on 45 acres in a village setting. Enjoy ample time at leisure to walk or ride the jitney, admire the American paintings, covered bridge, 1840s general store, 1950 period house, 220-foot steamboat SS Ticonderoga and more! This evening, enjoy a live cooking demonstration an included gourmet dinner prepared by a Vermont chef.

Day 4
Monday, 10/9/2017 - Vermont and New Hampshire
An included breakfast before we depart with our local guide and visit the Calvin Coolidge Historic Site at Plymouth Notch – the birthplace and boyhood home of the 30th President of the United States. Enjoy time to explore the village which is virtually unchanged since the early 20th century. The homes of Calvin Coolidge’s family and neighbors, the community church, cheese factory, one room schoolhouse, and general store have been carefully preserved, and many of the buildings have their original furnishings. We continue to the charming village of Woodstock –  home to one of Vermont’s iconic covered bridges. Enjoy time at leisure for lunch on own and browsing in this quaint town. This afternoon we’ll visit a Vermont family farm that specializes in cheddar cheese and maple sugar. Learn how the maple sap is drawn and converted into Vermont’s famous export. Sample different grades of syrup and a variety of cheeses. We continue to Quechee Gorge, Vermont’s most spectacular natural wonder! Known as Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon,” this 165-foot deep, mile-long gorge was formed as an Ice Age glacier receded from the ocean waters. We continue to New Hampshire’s Lake Region and arrive at Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire’s largest lake. All aboard the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad for a ride along Lake Winnipesaukee and a delicious hot turkey dinner carved on board! Begin a two-night stay in the quaint town of Meredith at a premier resort located on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee.

Day 5
Tuesday, 10/10/2017 - New Hampshire
After an included breakfast, a local guide joins us as we head to the magnificent White Mountains of New Hampshire, so called because of the granite summits that resemble snow year round. As we make our way through forests of sugar maple, mountain ash and white birch, keep your eyes open for native black bear, moose, deer and the dozens of species of birds that call this area home. This morning we’ll travel the Kancama – gus Highway, one of New England’s most scenic routes for fall foliage. We continue past Crawford Notch to the famed Mount Washington Hotel. We’ll enjoy an included lunch and guided tour of this National Historic Landmark. We continue to Franconia Notch and visit the Franconia Notch Visitor’s Center to learn about the Notch’s most famous landmark – the “Old Man of the Mountain.” We return to our resort with the balance of the evening at leisure.

Wednesday, 10/11/2017 - New Hampshire and Maine
Following an included breakfast, we’ll visit the amazing Castle in the Clouds – a magnificent mansion set in the mountains overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee. Then, enjoy an included box lunch and take in the sights aboard a scenic cruise on Squam Lake, the lake featured in the movie, On Golden Pond. We continue this afternoon to the coast of Maine and arrive in Ogunquit to begin a two-night stay at a quaint inn overlooking the ocean and adjacent to the Marginal Way – the accessible cliffside walk. Enjoy an included dinner (with lobster option) this evening at a locals’ favorite.

Day 7
Thursday, 10/12/2017 - Maine
After an included breakfast we’re joined by a local guide and tour the southern coast of Maine. In the quaint town of York we’ll make a photo stop at Nubble Light, one of the most frequently photographed and painted lighthouses in Maine. In Kennebunkport we’ll make a photo stop at the “Wedding Cake House” and see former President George H. W. Bush’s summer estate on Walker’s Point. Enjoy time at leisure at Kennebunkport’s Dock Square which is lined with restaurants, shops and galleries.This evening enjoy an included Farewell Dinner at a locals’ favorite.

Friday, 10/13/2017 - Boston
Following an included breakfast, we return to Massachusetts and will be joined by a local guide for a tour of Boston. Our tour will feature over 350 years of history highlighted by sites along the Freedom Trail including Boston Common, the Old State House, the Boston Massacre site and more. See the Old North Church, made famous by “one if by land, two if by sea.” Enjoy time at leisure for lunch and browsing at Quincy Market prior to a scheduled non-stop afternoon flight from Boston to LAX. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should depart the Boston Airport no earlier than 5 p.m. Those with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective drop-offs. Memories and images of your time in New England indelibly set in your mind.
