Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Monday, 10/15/2018 - Arrive Sequoia National Park
From our departure points this morning we travel by motorcoach towards California’s fertile Central Valley and Sequoia National Park beyond.  Following a morning rest stop and a stop for lunch on your own in the Central Valley, we’ll begin our trek from the Valley into the Sierra Nevada for breathtaking fall scenery. In the late afternoon we’ll arrive in Sequoia National Park and our beautiful mountain retreat for the next two nights, the Wuksachi Lodge. Sequoia’s signature hotel, this striking stone-and-cedar mountain lodge at 7,000 feet elevation is situated in the heart of Sequoia National Park and is surrounded by a sequoia forest and soaring Sierra peaks. This is the top lodge in the park – offering a remote location, yet all the modern amenities.  Your deluxe lodge room features natural décor highlighting native granite rock, oak, cedar and hickory woods. Enjoy dinner at leisure tonight in the Wuksachi Dining Room featuring signature California cuisine, a stone fireplace, soaring windows and nature views. Note that all lodge rooms are located approximately 100-200 yards from the main lodge building/dining room.
Day 2
Tuesday, 10/16/2018 - Sequoia & King Canyon
Following an included breakfast at the lodge, we’ll board the motorcoach for a full-day touring both Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. This landscape testifies to nature’s size, beauty, and diversity – huge mountains, rugged foothills, deep canyons, and the world’s largest trees. Our nation’s second-oldest national park and the oldest in California, Sequoia was originally established in the 1890’s to protect the grove of giant sequoia trees – the world’s largest living things. A visit to the Giant Forest Museum – converted from the historic Market building – will introduce you to the natural and human history of the Giant Forest. We’ll then enjoy a stroll through the Giant Forest Grove where we’ll find trees that are 2,500 years old, can measure 270 feet tall and 36 feet in diameter, with trunks weighing almost 1,400 tons! A highlight will be gazing upon the General Sherman Tree – the world’s largest living tree. Upon our arrival in Kings Canyon National Park, you’ll see why John Muir once called it “a rival to Yosemite.” Featuring deep valleys, skyscraping trees, and distinctive rock outcroppings, it is truly spectacular. We’ll enjoy an included picnic boxed lunch and stop to see Hume Lake, one of the most picturesque spots in the Park.  Finally, a visit to the General Grant Grove, the spectacular grove of giant sequoias that includes the General Grant Tree, officially “The Nation’s Christmas Tree.” We return to the Wuksachi Lodge with the balance of the evening at leisure.
Day 3
Wednesday, 10/17/2018 - Sequoia to Yosemite
Following an included breakfast at the lodge we’ll begin our journey to Yosemite National Park.  Returning to the Central Valley we’ll almost immediately begin gaining elevation again as we return to the Sierra Nevada foothills and climb into the mountains. This afternoon we arrive in Yosemite National Park, embracing a spectacular tract of mountain-and-valley scenery in the Sierra Nevada. Set aside as a National Park in 1890, the park harbors a grand collection of waterfalls, meadows and forests. In addition, the park offers some of the most majestic sights in the world due in part to its unique, glacier-shaped cliffs and rock faces. Upon our arrival in Yosemite Valley we’ll proceed to our accommodations for the next two nights, the Yosemite Valley Lodge. You’ll enjoy the deluxe rooms at this iconic lodge featuring large glass windows through which to view the sweeping mountains. Landscaping of indigenous trees, shrubs and wildflowers further reflect the natural beauty of Yosemite Valley. The lodge is within walking distance of both Yosemite Falls and Yosemite Village. Enjoy dinner at leisure this evening at the lodge’s Mountain Room Restaurant offering striking views of the 2,424 foot high Yosemite Falls.
Day 4
Thursday, 10/18/2018 - Yosemite National Park
Following an included breakfast at the lodge we’ll begin a full day touring Yosemite National Park to learn about the park’s history, geology, plant and animal life. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Yosemite National Park is truly spectacular! Our day of sightseeing in Yosemite Valley will be highlighted by such miraculously beautiful sights as El Capitan, Half Dome and an easy walk to the base of Yosemite Falls – the tallest waterfall in the United States. A highlight of our day will be an included three-course lunch at the Majestic Yosemite Hotel (formerly the Ahwahnee Hotel). The award-winning dining room is both magnificent and intimate. The 34-foot-high beamed ceiling with large sugar pine trestles that complement the room’s granite pillars, floor-to-ceiling windows, chandeliers, linen tablecloths and beautiful china create the perfect ambiance for a memorable dining experience.  This afternoon, enjoy time at leisure to do some of your own exploration on the many trails or browsing in Yosemite Village where you’ll find the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center, Yosemite Museum, the Ansel Adams Gallery and various ranger presentations. We return to the lodge with the balance of the evening at your leisure.
Day 5
Friday, 10/19/2018 - Journey Home
After an included breakfast, we depart the Yosemite Valley and begin our trek home, making unique rest and sightseeing stops in the Central Valley enroute. A stop will be made for lunch on your own. While we will return to the city this evening, images of giant granite cliffs, peaceful meadows and giant trees will remain with us forever.
