Embark on a journey that covers four of the most beautiful and bountiful regions of California – the Central Coast, the Napa Valley, the Sonoma Valley and the Central Valley. We’ll not only explore these incredibly beautiful regions on two memorable train journeys, but we’ll take pleasure in the “fruit of the vine” and explore the spectacular sights they feature including majestic old growth redwoods, the winding Russian River Valley, the Napa Valley Wine Train and San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Sunday, 4/29/2018 - Coastal Train Ride
We set out from our departure points this morning for the tranquility of California’s Central Coast. We’ll travel by deluxe motorcoach to Oxnard to board Amtrak’s deluxe Coast Starlight. Here begins a memorable four-hour rail journey along California’s coastline and through its fertile valleys to San Luis Obispo. We’ll travel along Point Conception and through Vandenberg Air Force Base where you’ll see the launch complexes and beautiful undeveloped coastline only visible by train. You are free to move around the train, and get a snack or lunch on your own from the snack bar or dine in the dining car (based on availability). Check out the view from the observation car or just relax in your reclining seat. Upon our arrival in San Luis Obispo, our motorcoach will be waiting to take us the short distance to the quaint Apple Farm Inn. Nestled by San Luis Obispo Creek and surrounded by rolling hills, the Apple Farm Inn is a quaint 4-diamond, Victorian-style inn situated among a lush, quiet garden setting. The inn blends the country charm of yesteryear with all of the modern comforts we expect today including a fireplace in every room and a heated pool year round. Enjoy the inn’s complimentary wine reception prior to dinner on your own at the Apple Farm Inn Restaurant.
Day 2
Monday, 4/30/2018 - San Francisco, Sonoma Valley
Following an included breakfast at the inn we continue north to San Francisco. Enjoy time for lunch on own and browsing at the ever-popular Pier 39. Known for its historic waterfront, delicious seafood, spectacular sights and unique shopping, Pier 39 offers a wide array of things to do. This afternoon we continue across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and continue to the picturesque Sonoma Valley. Here, we’ll enjoy a relaxing, three-night stay at a sprawling 4-star resort featuring California Spanish architecture and spacious, modern, stylish guest rooms with an array of amenities. Enjoy the balance of the evening at leisure with dinner on own at hotel’s restaurant or other restaurants within walking distance.

Tuesday, 5/1/2018 - Napa Valley, Sonoma
Following an included breakfast at the hotel we’ll travel through the rolling hills to the Napa Valley – one of the most picturesque and widely recognized wine regions in the world. Vineyards have been part of the landscape here for more than 150 years and today this valley is home to more than 400 wineries. In downtown Napa we’ll board the Napa Valley Wine Train for a three-hour experience you’ll never forget. The faithfully-restored vintage early 20th century Pullman cars that feature Honduran mahogany paneling, brass accents, etched glass partitions, and plush armchairs evoke the elegant glory days of luxury train travel of the early 1900s. Sit back, relax, and savor the extraordinary scenery as we enjoy a 36-mile round-trip journey to St. Helena and back. Onboard we’ll enjoy an multi-course lunch with choice of entrée as the lush vineyards of the Napa Valley landscape pass by. This afternoon we continue to the historic town of Sonoma and its historic town plaza – a remnant of the town’s Spanish colonial past. Enjoy time at leisure to explore Mission San Francisco Solano State Historic Park and dinner on your own at one of the eateries here.

Day 4
Wednesday, 5/2/2018 - Santa Rosa & Russian River Valley
We travel north this morning to Santa Rosa and the Charles Schulz-owned and built Redwood Empire Ice Arena for an included breakfast in its unique coffee shop, “The Warm Puppy.” Although born in Minnesota, Schulz called this area his home for over 40 years and this coffee shop is where he would enjoy breakfast as he watched the children skating on his ice rink. We continue next door to the Charles M. Schulz Museum, dedicated to preserving and displaying the art and keepsakes of this legendary cartoonist. See a replica of his studio, original comic strips, photographs, artifacts, memorabilia, and licensed Peanuts products from around the world. We’ll then travel deep into the Russian River Valley and arrive at the Armstrong Redwood State Natural Reserve, home to stately and magnificent coast redwoods. This serene and majestic grove stand together as a testament to the wonders of the natural world. A naturalist-guide will join us for a short easy stroll along the level trail through these towering redwoods. This afternoon we’ll enjoy a guided tour and tasting at an award-wining winery in the Sonoma Valley. We return to the hotel later this afternoon with the balance of the evening at leisure.

Thursday, 5/3/2018 - Paso Robles, Pismo Beach
Following an included breakfast at the hotel, we’ll travel south to Paso Robles. Located along California’s famed Central Coast, Paso Robles’ fertile soil and long growing season of warm days and cool evenings creates award-winning premium wines. There are more than 40 different varieties of grapes grown here at more than 200 wineries – in fact it’s the fastest growing wine region in California! At Eberly Winery we’ll go 35 feet underground to enjoy an included lunch with tasting in the Eberle Caves. We then continue the short distance to Pismo Beach featuring 23 miles of unspoiled sandy beaches and a dramatic rugged coastline. We’ll enjoy an overnight stay at a charming oceanfront inn with a fireplace in every room. This evening, enjoy an included and memorable three-course dinner at the eclectic and historic Madonna Inn. The timeless elegance and whimsical décor of this California landmark has intrigued visitors for more than 50 years.

Friday, 5/4/2018 - Santa Barbara, Journey Home
Following an included breakfast at the inn, we’ll travel the back roads to Santa Barbara where we’ll visit the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. Designed in the Spanish-Colonial style and completed in 1929, this iconic Santa Barbara landmark features a distinctive four-faced clock tower, red tile roof, elegant arches and verdant sunken garden and grounds. Inside, you can get a visual history lesson from the elaborate hand-painted murals, marvel at ornate wrought-iron chandeliers and climb to the top of the clock tower for a panoramic view of Santa Barbara.Enjoy time at leisure for lunch on your own and browsing in downtown Santa Barbara offering a variety of restaurants along State Street and at Paseo Nuevo – the Mediterranean-style shopping district. Returning to our drop-off points this evening, we’ll relish in the memories of our time relaxing on the Coast Starlight, the Napa Valley Wine Train and amongst California’s vineyards and redwoods.
