Embark on a relaxing three-day getaway to explore California’s Central Coast while enjoying a stay at a quaint inn on the beach along Cambria’s Moonstone Beach. We’ll travel by train, explore the backroads and keep a relaxed pace as we explore the region and get a first-hand look at what makes the California Coast so special.

Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Wednesday, 11/7/2018 - Coastal Train Ride
This morning we set out from our departure points for the tranquility of the Central Coast. We’ll travel by motorcoach to Oxnard to board Amtrak’s Coast Starlight. Here begins a memorable four-hour rail journey along California’s coastline and through its fertile valleys to San Luis Obispo. We’ll travel along Point Conception and through Vandenberg Air Force Base where you’ll see the launch complexes and beautiful undeveloped coastline only visible by train. You are free to move around the train, get lunch from the snack bar or enjoy lunch on own in the dining car. Check out the view from the observation car or just relax in your reclining seat. Upon our arrival in San Luis Obispo, our motorcoach will be waiting to take us the rest of the way to the quaint seaside village of Cambria – the artists’ colony nestled in a forest of towering Monterey Pines. We’ll spend the next two nights at a recently renovated and charming inn which features cozy rooms with a fireplaces. The inn is located on Moonstone Beach, a spectacular stretch of rugged coastline which offers an extraordinary array of tide pools, walk-able boardwalks and a spectacular vantage point for memorable sunsets. An included dinner this evening at a locals’ favorite.

Day 2
Thursday, 11/8/2018 - Hearst Castle & Cambria
Following an included breakfast at the inn, we’ll head to Hearst Castle, once the hilltop estate of William Randolph Hearst. On a docent-guided tour you’ll walk amongst the lavish grounds and buildings designed by architect Julia Morgan during her 28 year association with Mr. Hearst. You may choose from one of three tours that highlight different parts of the Castle and enjoy time at leisure to explore the gardens and pools at leisure. Also included is the IMAX film, Building the Dream which tells the story of Hearst Castle on a giant six-story screen. This afternoon enjoy time at leisure for lunch and shopping at leisure in the quaint village of Cambria, filled with unique boutiques and galleries and a variety of restaurants. Cambria has a leisurely pace and country village atmosphere reminiscent of a small town. This evening enjoy San Luis Obispo’s open-air Thursday night street faire and farmers’ market which fills four blocks of historic downtown. Buy just-picked produce, sample a variety of barbecued specialties from local restaurants and stroll the many booths while you are entertained by local performers.
Day 3
Friday, 11/9/2018 - Solvang & Journey Home
Following an included breakfast at the inn, we’ll take a scenic ride along the coast with stops for photos and to soak in the fabulous vistas. See the elephant seals at Piedras Blancas and take a walk along the pier at San Simeon State Beach. We’ll continue south and travel the backroads making a stop this afternoon to enjoy time at leisure for lunch and browsing in Solvang. Known as America’s famous “Little Denmark,” Solvang features quaint old-world architectural styles and flower-lined streets to create a very walkable village. Wonderful shops offer imported European wares and collectibles and the delicious bakeries and restaurants are a delight. Arriving at our drop-off points this evening, we’ll all relish in the memories of our time on the beautiful California Central Coast.
