Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Friday, 8/31/2018 - Travel to Anchorage
Optional transfers from home or our departure points this morning will have you at the Los Angeles International Airport for a connecting flight to Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city and a surprising metropolis. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should arrive at the Anchorage Airport by 8:00 p.m. if they want to be included on the complimentary meet and greet at the airport and included transfer from the airport to the hotel. After the short included transfer from the airport, you’ll meet your local tour director at your Anchorage hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2
Saturday, 9/1/2018 - Anchorage to Valdez
Following an included breakfast, you’ll depart the hotel with your local Alaskan tour director who knows Alaska inside and out. Today’s grand journey takes you to Valdez via the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, known for its world-record sized vegetables that grow so large due to the extensive daylight in summer. Stop by Worthington Glacier to admire this gigantic piece of ice! In the early evening arrive in Valdez, nestled between the waterfront and mountains, giving it the nickname, Alaska’s “Little Switzerland.” Begin a two-night stay in Valdez.
Day 3
Sunday, 9/2/2018 - Valdez & Prince William Sound
Following an included breakfast, you’ll spend the morning exploring the quaint port community of Valdez including a visit to the Valdez Museum. This afternoon, board a small cruise boat and travel through the pristine waters of majestic Prince William Sound on a glacier and wildlife cruise. Explore the three-mile face of the mighty Columbia Glacier and hear tales of the region as told by the Alaskan crew. Keep an eye out for an amazing array of wildlife including seals, sea lions, otters, whales and puffins throughout this half-day cruise with an included lunch onboard.
Day 4
Monday, 9/3/2018 - Valdez to Fairbanks
After an included breakfast, continue to Fairbanks, the largest city in Alaska’s interior. The route follows the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and skirts along Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the largest national park in the United States. Arrive in Fairbanks this evening for a two-night stay.
Day 5
Tuesday, 9/4/2018 - Fairbanks
Following an included breakfast, enjoy a driving tour of Fairbanks – known to Alaskans as the “Golden Heart City.” Learn how the gold rush affected Alaska’s interior during a visit to the Museum of the North at the University of Alaska. Enjoy time at leisure for browsing and lunch on your own in downtown Fairbanks. This afternoon, board a sternwheeler for a 3-hour cruise on the Chena River to experience what life was like when traditional riverboats plied the waterways here in the late 1800’s. Enjoy an included, authentic salmon bake dinner this evening.
Day 6
Wednesday, 9/5/2018 - Denali National Park
Following an included breakfast, you’ll continue south by motorcoach into Denali National Park, (elevation, 4,000 feet). Enjoy the afternoon participating in a complimentary park service activity or an optional excursion available for additional fees. Optional excursions include white water rafting or a scenic float trip, an ATV wilderness adventure, flight-seeing Mt. Denali, a Denali bike tour, a Denali photo tour or a visit to Husky Homestead – home of Iditarod Champion Jeff King – to get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a championship Iditarod team. Note that all optional excursions are subject to change and all excursions may not be available. All bookings/payments are made with your tour director while on tour. Late this afternoon, arrive at your resort located at the entrance to Denali National Park. This evening, an optional dinner show is available.
Day 7
Thursday, 9/6/2018 - Denali National Park
Following an included breakfast you’ll travel deep into Denali National Park on a 4-6 hour “Tundra Wilderness Tour” that takes you deep into the wilds of Denali National Park, a six-million-acre UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Traveling through forest and alpine tundra and over high mountain passes, you may see moose, caribou, Dall sheep, wolves and grizzly bears and, depending on weather and visibility, awe-inspiring Denali itself – North America’s highest peak at 20,310 feet. Return to the resort in the late afternoon with the balance of the evening at leisure.
Day 8
Friday, 9/7/2018 - Alaska Railroad
After an included breakfast, continue south by motorcoach with time at leisure for browsing and lunch on your own in the quaint town of Talkeetna with a downtown area classified as a National Historic Site. This afternoon, board deluxe railcars on the world-famous, Alaska Railroad and enjoy a 3-hour rail journey through some of the most scenic and rugged territory in Alaska to Anchorage. Keep your eyes open for a glimpse of the majestic Mt. Denali or black bears along the Susitna River.
Day 9
Saturday, 9/8/2018 - Anchorage
Following an included breakfast, enjoy a driving tour of Anchorage including the historic downtown district. Later, you’ll arrive at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, a gathering place that celebrates, perpetuates and shares Alaska Native cultures. This evening, enjoy an included farewell dinner and share tales from the road with your traveling companions.
Day 10
Sunday, 9/9/2018 - Journey Home
Your Alaska tour comes to an end with an included transfer to the Anchorage Airport and a return flight to Los Angeles. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, may depart the Anchorage Airport at any time today. Those with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective drop-off destinations. An incredible Alaskan adventure featuring incredible history, memorable sites and stunning scenery providing many fond memories. 

Note that the land portion of this specialized tour is operated by a local tour operator partner of ours that specializes in this area and provides a professional tour director to lead the group upon arrival in Fairbanks. Our group will be joined by passengers from other tour operators. A Good Times Travel tour director will accompany our group only with a minimum number of Good Times travelers.
