Day 5
Monday, 7/16/2018 - Icefields Parkway and Jaspter
Following an included breakfast we’ll begin our drive on one of the world’s most spectacular mountain highways – the Icefields Parkway.  Often described as “the most spectacular stretch of highway” in all of North America, this roadway parallels the Continental Divide as it traverses an unspoiled wilderness of more than 100 glaciers, pristine lakes, rushing streams, tumbling waterfalls, and some of the highest peaks in the Rockies. Stay alert for possible sightings of mountain goats, bighorn sheep, moose, marmots, elk and even a bear. We’ll make several stops to take in the views of the soft baby blue waters of Peyto Lake, Bow Lake and Crowfoot Glacier. Not to be missed is the experience of a lifetime – a ride on the Ice Explorer at the Columbia Icefield (weather permitting), one of the largest bodies of ice south of the Arctic.  Aboard a specially-designed glacier vehicle we’ll take a ride on the Athabasca Glacier, a 1,000-foot thick glacier surface where you will see crevasses and seracs and learn that glaciers are moving rivers of ice, thousands of years old.  You can then step out onto the ice formed from snow falling over the last 400 years. The meltwater from the Columbia Icefield feeds streams that flow into three oceans: the Arctic, the Atlantic and the Pacific. Following an included boxed lunch we continue north to Jasper National Park. Here we begin a two night stay at a deluxe hotel within the National Park and within walking distance of the charming townsite.
Day 6
Tuesday, 7/17/2018 - Jasper
Following an included breakfast, we’ll join a local guide for a panoramic tour of Jasper National Park which looks much like it did when David Thompson, Canada’s great fur-trade-era explorer first discovered it. Highlights include Pyramid Lake, Patricia Lake, Athabasca Falls and the beautiful Maligne Canyon. We continue through the Maligne Valley past the incredible disappearing Medicine Lake and arrive at Maligne Lake, the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rocky Mountains – and perhaps the prettiest. The lake is 14 miles long, ringed by dramatic snow-capped peaks, and features picturesque Spirit Island. Be on the lookout for wildlife on a guided boat cruise. This afternoon wander amongst the many shops in downtown Jasper, or for an additional charge enjoy an optional float trip down the Athabasca River. This leisurely experience offers a unique perspective of Jasper National Park and passes through many small sets of rapid and calm stretches.
Day 7
Wednesday, 7/18/2018 - Jasper to Lake Louise
Following an included breakfast we return south on the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise, known as the “Diamond in the Wilderness.” It is here that the majestic mountains soaring skyward are reflected in the vibrant blue of the glacier-fed, Lake Louise. Here we’ll check-in to the spectacular Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for an overnight stay. This elegant hotel is one of the world’s most-often photographed hotels and one of Canada’s most renowned resorts. Built in 1890, this five-star hotel is set in the midst of extraordinary Banff National Park. Enjoy time to stroll the grounds and view Victoria Glacier and the emerald waters of Lake Louise out the hotel’s backdoor. This evening, a memorable included dinner in the hotel’s dining room.
Day 8
Thursday, 7/19/2018 - Yoho National Park
Following an included breakfast we’ll join a local guide for a panoramic tour of Yoho National Park, home to some of the most sublime scenery in all of North America. See Emerald Lake which is filled with glacial run-off water that makes it glisten with the blue-green hue of an emerald.  Following an included boxed lunch, we continue south across the Continental Divide – where the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean divide. We’ll continue through the Great Plains of Canada and return to the Calgary Airport. A late afternoon flight returns us to Los Angeles with spectacular photos and memories of the incomparable Canadian Rockies. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air should depart the Calgary International Airport no earlier than 7 p.m. Those with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective destinations.
